Valaam - Island-monastery. Part №2

Today I decided to continue and finish the topic [Valaam is a monastery island](https://ecency.com/hive-163772/@apnigrich/valaam-island-monastery).
I ended my last narration by saying that we had lunch and went for a walk in the courtyard of the monastery.
But before we had lunch in the monastery refectory, we visited the Cathedral itself. I was surprised by the fact that there are 2 large halls in which parallel services are held.

The Transfiguration Cathedral. This is the name of the central cathedral of the monastery. It was built at the end of the 19th century. 
I have already mentioned that the Cathedral consists of 2 independent floors. They even have different names of churches. The lower church is open all year, but the upper church functions only in summer, because it is cool there in winter.
We didn't look at the lower church, there were a lot of visitors there. We visited the top floor. But we were there for literally 20 minutes, because the service was supposed to start there and we were asked to leave.  It seemed strange to me. I have never had to leave the church like this before, they always allowed me to attend the divine service..

When my daughter was little, she always wanted to go to our village church, past which we walk home. Her wife took her there for baptism, then she was there several times. But I understand that she no longer had a craving for church hearings. In Orthodox churches, services are very strict.

I must say that this is a very beautiful church from the inside. But the painting in the upper church is fresh, post-Soviet. But the lower church has an old wall painting. The Upper Church did not function in Soviet times. In the USSR, the attitude to religion was unequivocal - harm to the people!

My children, my son and son-in-law, are bored. And I like to listen to the guide about the history, about the events that took place in the area in which I find myself. And I like to visit all kinds of churches - Orthodox and Catholic. It seems that there is only one God, but people fight against each other all their lives with his name on their lips for the most correct Faith in him.

The children put candles for the repose of the grandmother of the son-in-law and for the health of the grandfather.

Inside the cathedral, of course, it is interesting, but on the street, outside there is a lot of unexplored. The courtyard of the Valaam monastery is far from similar to the thief churches in Rome, the Vatican. We have more simple everyday freedom. I have not seen any statues of Jesus or other canonized personalities in any Orthodox church. There are icons in Russian churches that I have not seen in Catholic churches. 
So what's up with the courtyard ? It's just an open space with outbuildings on the edges.

It turns out that recently one of these buildings was subjected to a fire. It is sad.

But it's time for us to go towards the marina.

I must say that the monks on this island have long been engaged in agriculture. They brought various fruit trees to sotvro in the 19th century and were engaged in breeding. The soil on the island is fertile and always yields an excellent harvest.

The island didn't want to let us go. A storm warning came from weather forecasters and the ship did not come for us. 70 people went to the pier and looked for an opportunity to go home. We managed to do it quite in the evening by the very last small boat that came specifically for us. I want to say that my son-in-law was very happy about this. It was an extra adventure on this trip for an extra fee. It was the cherry on the cake.

That is really such a great Cathedral. the interior painting is so amazing.
at least now they can be used as usual, not like those in soviet times, isn't it?

Yes. The painting is beautiful. very. And I remembered the Sistine Chapel, where it is forbidden to take pictures. Someone bought the rights to the photo in this building and for sale.
