The birds with no wind
I had the opportunity to test Sigma's 150-600mm contemporary -lens, which is one of the affordable but high quality supertelezoom lenses. My current telezoom lens, old Canon 100-300mm is starting to break down, so I'm trying to find for alternatives.

The sigma's lens is huge and heavy, I can imagine the sport-variant is even far heavier, but this is heavy enough for making me think I wouldn't carry this around just for fun.

But now to the photos.

![600mm_t1.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/ILQHOgsG-600mm_t1.jpg)

First target was the sleeping duck. Nothing too interesting here.
Now let's take a closer look.
![600mm_r1.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/FoP82Zw0-600mm_r1.jpg)

See it's eyes? It's watching us. It sees us. It watches over us.

Not sure if it'd rather kill us or escape.

![600mm_t2.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/KiPvRtCB-600mm_t2.jpg)

We moved further and saw the two ducks on the rock.

![600mm_r2.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/q2eRPWeJ-600mm_r2.jpg)

I'm using a full-frame Canon EOS 6D and even with cropped images, you can see the images seem sharp. The images are cropped approximately to 1800x1200. I'm not sure if I could have got a sharper one, but this was a quick snap with autofocus.

![600mm_t3.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/GAsOrslY-600mm_t3.jpg)

Now to the swans. We found a bunch of swans!

They're usually really aggressive if people get close to them, but this flock of birds had gathered really close to a popular hiking spot.

So they were cool with people getting relatively close to them.

![600mm_r3.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/Kid8lllE-600mm_r3.jpg)

Are you looking for treasures in there, buddy?

![600mm_t4.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/VL34fwXD-600mm_t4.jpg)

Now look at that ass!
I know I'd be happy to take plenty of butt photos, but I didn't believe I'd be taking photos of baby swan asses.

![600mm_r4.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/dt8ybVXo-600mm_r4.jpg)

~~Ass you can see~~ I mean as you can see, the photo isn't focused on the ass. With f/7.1 aperture it still looks pretty nice to me. One of the best swan asses I've photographed so far.

![600mm_t5.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/NI6ruByM-600mm_t5.jpg)

"Hey, my eyes are up here!"

![600mm_r5.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/jV8ryueP-600mm_r5.jpg)

This is kind of boring photo, BUT here you can again see the sharpness in the crop. Can you see his fabulous hair?
It's short, but it's there. And it's not really hair, but who cares. The photo is detailed enough for a 1000€ lens (which can be found at half price if you buy it used in good condition).

![600mm_t6.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/mmul41dQ-600mm_t6.jpg)

Not sure about photo quality, but this is my favorite shot of the day. The loving pile of swans.

This makes me think of a safe, comfortable childhood.

I think everyone and everything deserves to have a good life and a safe childhood.

![600mm_r6.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/lVW1yLB0-600mm_r6.jpg)

You can see in it's eyes. They know it's going to end soon and the warm days of summer will be gone.

No more joy with siblings. No more everlasting light and food.

When the winter comes, it's time to leave.

![600mm_t7.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/NQtaYGs2-600mm_t7.jpg)

Hey! It's not winter yet, please don't leave!

A family was watching swans with us and for some reason, the mother ran at the swans and scared them away.

No clue why she did that. I wish I had taken a photo of her, but I was afraid she'll attack me too.

![600mm_r7.jpg](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/apsu/YQmaFVPh-600mm_r7.jpg)

So to make you better, I took a photo of the pole.

Great shots. I was looking at getting the Sigma, but ended up getting the Tamron 150-600 instead. Then I ended up trading the lens for a set of cinema lenses. Now I am going to be getting another long lens in the near future, so I will be back to testing them out again.

Thanks! I've heard that Sigma was better than Tamron's first version of 150-600, but Tamron's second model is a clear improvement to the first one.

The 150-600mm was so huge compared to any other lens I have previously owned I might end up getting a 100-400mm instead. But then again, I might end up disappointed for not getting the 150-600mm one.

Life is full of choices.

I really like those pictures. For people who like to take macro photos, a lens of 75-300 is important. I bought this lens recently. I enjoyed your pics :)

Thanks! I would like to get a "real" macro lens, but as I'm not sure what I would actively photograph with it, I'm trying to find lenses I'd be using more actively first. Maybe I would get really close-up photos of bumblebees in the summer, but I trust they can wait.

Is your 75-300mm lens good?

It seemed so weird. She had been watching them with her kids for a while before we arrived and then she suddenly just ran at them.

She didn't even seem intoxicated.

I can tell you, I have no clue on why she did that.
