Hello, fellow needleworkers! How have you all been doing? I have actually missed you all after a while I have not been sharing my shoemaking skills. The truth is that it has not been easy for me trying to meet up with work, especially for shoemaking. This is because some of my shoemaking team who do assist have found themselves another job and now I’m hoping to get new ones to reduce the stress.

Since last year, I have actually been managing just the old palms that I had. This is not because I couldn’t make a new one for myself but because I tried to manage the old palms that I have. I didn’t just want to spend a lot of money on making palms since the old ones were still active. I do understand that a lot of shoemakers will always want to live big by spending a lot of money in making numbers of palms for themselves. Instead of me just spending money on buying materials to make a number of foot wears for myself, I rather use the money to buy materials and make footwear for customers that would pay me money.

I’m not saying that as a shoemaker you shouldn’t make excess footwear for yourself. But I think it will be better if you use the money to invest by making the footwear where you can actually have a profit by the time customers buy the footwear from you.

Just some days ago, I realized that I have not actually made a new palm for myself considering the fact that the old ones are no longer in a good condition. I didn’t have any option but to just close my eyes to make a new palm for myself. But I have to make sure that the materials to be used in making the palm for myself are of high quality. This will make the palm last for me for at least one year.

**Materials used in making the palm will be provided below:**

Brown thread: The main reason why I chose to use brown thread for the sewing of the palm was to make sure that the brown color matches the brown leather used in making the palm.

Brown leather: This is the material used in making the top design of palm footwear.

Palm sole: This is the downside of the palm and it protects the top leather design of footwear from damaging quickly, The palm sole is always thicker and made with leather for the making of footwear.

Palm design pendant: This is just an aluminum form but is designed for the making of footwear. I used the palm design pendant at the top design of the palm to give it a unique design.

**Tools used for the making of the pal will also be provided below:**

Sewing machine.

Sewing pin/needle.

Scissors.

Hammer.

Gum.

Sandpaper.

Brush.

Pinpointer opener.

Note: I was not able to take some of the images during the process of making the palm because I didn’t have anyone to support me in doing that. So, I just took the ones I could.

**Procedures used in making the palm will be provided below:**

I have to decide on the kind of palm to make.

I have to get and arrange the materials.

I have to measure the leather by sketching the top design of the palm.

After sketching the top design of the palm, I have to use scissors to cut it into pieces.

I have to gather the top design leather I just cut and then sandpaper it and apply gums on them. After that, I have to gum the top leather design of the palm.

I now have to use a sewing machine to sew the top leather design of the palm.

I now have to sandpaper the palm sole and the top leather design and then apply gum on them using a brush.

I now have to allow the palm sole and the top leather design to be under the sun for about 2hrs for proper drying.

I now have to arrange the completeness of the palm. After that, I now have to add the aluminum pendant to the palm.
