# Grid Trading Experiment: How Is It Going?

A few weeks ago – *specifically [in this post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-earning-hive-thanks-to-my-scripts-bridges-arbitrage-and-grid-trading-5sz)* – I told you about a little experiment I had decided to start, using Python to create and manage a series of **grid trading** operations – *or at least that's what ChatGPT called the idea when I described it.*

The concept is simple: take advantage of the price fluctuations of one asset (HIVE) relative to another (HBD), selling when the value of the former rises and buying when it drops.

Basically, the script I created places a series of buy and sell orders increasingly further from the current price, so it can catch these variations when they occur.

Once one or more of these variations is triggered, the script uses the HIVE or HBD earned to place new buy and sell orders, and so on.

In an **ideal** scenario where the price of HIVE always stays within the same range, the script can execute dozens of buy and sell orders, generating a steady profit equal to the price difference I aim to catch.

In my case, this percentage ranges from 0.50% to 1.50%, so if many trades go through successfully, the profit can become very interesting very quickly.

## <center>How interesting?</center>

To give you an idea of the earnings this strategy can produce, let’s look at the last 7 days of activity from my script, which operates via the @wolf-lord account.

From June 3rd to June 10th, my script managed funds totaling around 32 HIVE.

During these 7 days, my account balance increased by about 1 HIVE.

Rounding here and there, that’s a 3% increase compared to the initial balance... in a week.

If, for some reason, this situation continued for an entire year, the gain would amount to a spectacular 160% relative to the initial capital.

Of course, it's extremely unlikely such a situation would occur and, in fact, strong fluctuations in the price of HIVE – which we all hope for! – could not only erode the profits but even push the entire operation into the red.

That’s why, as I mentioned, while on one hand I’ll keep this script running to see what happens, on the other I’d like to use what I’ve learned to apply grid trading to different scenarios, like stablecoin liquidity pools on other chains.

In this case, the situation appears much more predictable and easier to manage, since two stablecoins pegged to the dollar will always maintain very similar values.

If there’s any margin to catch the small price differences that inevitably arise when people use these pools, then maybe I could develop a script capable of generating a steady income stream with an extremely low risk profile.

## <center>Where to start?</center>

The starting point for this project will be **Solana** and **Unichain**, while waiting for the **VSC Network** to become operational.

I mentioned Solana and Unichain [in this post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-looking-for-ultra-lowfees-chains-solana-polygon-unichain-5kw), and the idea is to take advantage of these chains thanks to their extremely low gas fees and ultra-fast transaction times.

To do that, however, I’ll need to hit the books... hoping the material is within my reach 😅

# Esperimento Grid Trading: Come Sta Andando?

Qualche settimana fa - *e precisamente [in questo post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-earning-hive-thanks-to-my-scripts-bridges-arbitrage-and-grid-trading-5sz)* - vi ho parlato di un piccolo esperimento che avevo deciso di iniziare a condurre, utilizzando Python per creare e gestire una serie di operazioni di **grid trading** - *o almeno questo è il nome che ChatGPT ha dato all'idea quando gliel'ho descritta.*

Il concetto è semplice: sfruttare le oscillazioni di valore di un asset (HIVE) rispetto ad un altro (HBD), vendendo quando il valore del primo sale ed acquistando quando scende.

In pratica, lo script che ho creato piazza una serie di ordini di acquisto e di vendita sempre più lontani dal prezzo attuale, così da poter cogliere queste variazioni quando si verificano.

Una volta intercettata una o più variazioni, lo script utilizza gli HIVE o HBD così guadagnati per piazzare dei nuovi ordini, di nuovo di acquisto e di vendita, e così via.

In uno scenario **ideale** in cui il prezzo di HIVE rimane sempre all'interno dello stesso range, lo script può mettere a segno decine di ordine di acquisto e vendita, generando un profitto costante che è pari alla differenza di prezzo di che ho deciso di provare ad intercettare.

Nel mio caso questa percentuale parte dallo 0,50% ed arriva all'1,50%, per cui, nel caso di parecchi trade consecutivi andanti a buon fine, il guadagno può diventare molto interessante molto velocemente.

## <center>Quanto interessante?</center>

Per dare un'idea dei guadagni che questa strategia può consentire, prendiamo in esame gli ultimi 7 giorni di attività del mio script, che opera tramite l'account @wolf-lord.

Nel periodo che va dal 3 giugno al 10 giugno il mio script ha gestito fondi complessivamente ammontanti a circa 32 HIVE.

Nel corso di questi 7 giorni il balance del mio account è salito di circa 1 HIVE.

Arrotondando un po' qui e là, si tratta di un incremento del 3% rispetto al balance inizialmente disponibile... in una settimana.

Se per qualche motivo questa situazione si protraesse per un anno intero, il guadagno ammonterebbe ad uno spettacolare 160% rispetto al capitale iniziale.

Ovviamente è assolutamente improbabile che una situazione del genere si verifichi ed, anzi, eventuali forti variazioni nel prezzo di HIVE - che tutti ci auguriamo! - potrebbero non solo erodere i guadagni accumulati, ma anche portare l'intera operazione in negativo.

Ecco perchè, come avevo accennato, anche se da una parte a questo punto continuerò a far operare questo script, così per vedere cosa succede, dall'altra vorrei utilizzare quello che ho imparato per applicare questo grid trading a scenari differenti, esempio le pool di liquidità tra stablecoins su altre chains.

In questo caso, infatti, la situazione è all'apparenza molto più prevedibile e facile da gestire, dato che due stablecoins ancorare al dollaro manterranno sempre valori molti vicini l'una all'altra.

Se ci fosse un qualche margine per intercettare le lievi differenze di prezzo che però, inevitabilmente, si vengono a creare quando le persone utilizzano queste pool, ecco che forse potrei dar vita ad uno script capace di generarmi un flusso in entrata costante e dal bassissimo profilo di rischio.

## <center>Da dove partire?</center>

Il punto di partenza di questo progetto saranno **Solana** e **Unichain**, in attesa che il **VSC Netowrk** diventi operativo.

Vi avevo parlato di Solana ed Unichain [questo post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-looking-for-ultra-lowfees-chains-solana-polygon-unichain-5kw) e l'idea sarebbe quella di sfruttare queste chains per le loro gas fees estremamente basse ed i tempi di transazione estremamente ridotti.

Per farlo dovrò però mettermi a studiare... sperando che ciò che andrò a leggere sia alla mia portata 😅
