# Is the Orca Status Really That Far?

As many know, @hivebuzz categorizes Hive users using fish and aquatic mammal-themed ranks based on the amount of HP they own: for instance, those with an enormous amount of HP can aim to be recognized as a Whale, while those with an amount similar to mine can boast the title of Dolphin.

As a video game enthusiast, I’ve always found these gamification elements fun, because they motivate me to pursue increasingly ambitious goals in order to unlock new badges, titles, and achievements. I know they’re ultimately useless, but I find it amusing to have a new colorful icon next to my name or visible on some site.

These "marine/aquatic" titles were among the first I encountered, thanks to the notifications @hivebuzz sends from the very beginning to all new users as soon as they start performing their first actions on Hive.

Climbing the ranks isn’t easy, though, because each level requires significantly more HP than the previous one. I don’t remember if this applies to the very first steps as well, but to go from Dolphin to Orca, you need to increase your HP tenfold — and the same goes for moving from Orca to Whale.

Considering that reaching Dolphin requires around 6,000 HP, this means you need 60,000 HP to be recognized as an Orca — as you can also see by checking how much HP the first Orca and the last Dolphin have:

The path from Dolphin onward gets really tough and, honestly, I’ve always thought this was where I’d stop...

...but is that really the case?

## <center>Years... not decades!</center>

Lately, I’ve been doing some math:

* I’ve been **active** on Hive for almost 3 years (it’ll be 3 this August)
* during this time I’ve accumulated over 16,000 HP and nearly 2,000 liquid HIVE
* based on my earnings in recent months, I estimate I’ll have over 17,000 HP and around 2,500 liquid HIVE by August

If we round things up and do the math, that would mean I’ll have obtained around 20,000 HP/HIVE in three years.

Right now, that amount represents one-third of the HP needed to reach Orca status: if nothing changes, I’d need another 6 years to get to 60,000 HP and become an Orca.

A lot, yes, but not *that* much.

There are also two other things to consider — one negative, and one positive.

Let’s start with the **negative** one: the HP required to reach any rank increases over time.

So in 6 years, it will definitely take more than 60,000 HP to become an Orca. It’s hard to say exactly how much more, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s at least 10,000 more.

Now for the **positive** side: the more HP I have, the easier it is to earn more.

Between staking and curation rewards, my HP grows by 10% each year.

Plus, over time I’ve been finding new ways to earn more HIVE, as I described in a [recent post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-earning-hive-thanks-to-my-scripts-bridges-arbitrage-and-grid-trading-5sz).

There are also the Hive Games, which occasionally give me a [little boost](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-golem-overlord-more-than-460-hive-earned-since-i-started-playing-this-hive-game-kg8).

Considering all these additional income sources, I think I’ll be able to offset the increasing HP requirements for becoming an Orca — and maybe even do better, gradually reducing the time needed to reach this new and prestigious status.

If I had to make a rough estimate, I’d say I might need about 5 more years to accumulate all the necessary HP... and 5 years really isn’t that long!

So who knows — with some patience, a lot of consistency, and a bit of luck, maybe one day not too far off I’ll reach a milestone that once felt completely and utterly out of my reach.

# Lo Stato di Orca è Davvero Così Lontano?

Come molti sanno, @hivebuzz suddivide gli utenti di Hive in alcune categoria a tema pesci e mammiferi acquatici sulla base degli HP che ciascuno possiede: ad esempio, chi ha un numero spropositato di HP può ambire ad essere riconosciuto come una Balena, mentre chi ne ha un numero simile al mio può fregiarsi del titolo di Delfino.

Da amante dei videogiochi ho sempre trovato divertenti questi elementi di gamification, perchè mi stimolano a cercare di raggiungere obiettivi sempre più ambiziosi, così da sbloccare nuovi badges, titoli e riconoscimenti: so che non servono a nulla, ma trovo simpatico avere una nuova iconcina colorata accanto al mio nome o visibile su un qualche portale.

E questi titoli "marini/acquatici" sono fra i primi con cui sono entrato in contatto, grazie alle notifiche che @hivebuzz invia sin dall'inizio a tutti i nuovi utenti non appena cominciano a compiere le prime azioni su Hive.

Scalare la classifica non è però facile, perchè ogni rank richiede sempre più HP del precedente: non mi ricordo se vale anche per i primissimi step, ma per passare da Delfino ad Orca occorre aumentare di 10 volte i propri HP, così come per passare da Orca e Balena.

Considerato che per arrivare a Delfino occorrono circa 6.000 HP, ciò significa che per essere riconosciuto come Orca ne servono 60.000, come è possibile anche vedere guardando quanti HP hanno, rispettivamente, la prima Orca e l'ultimo Delfino:

La strada da Delfino in poi si fa quindi davvero dura e, onestamente, ho sempre pensato che qui è dove mi sarei fermato...

... ma è davvero così?

## <center>Anni... non decenni!</center>

In questi giorni mi sono messo infatti a fare qualche calcolo:
- sono **attivo** su Hive da quasi 3 anni (saranno 3 ad inizio Agosto)
- in questo lasso di tempo ho accumulato oltre 16.000 HP e quasi 2000 HIVE liquidi
- considerando i miei guadagni degli ultimi mesi posso stimare che per Agosto avrò più di 17.000 HP e circa 2.500 HIVE liquidi

Se approssimiamo il tutto e tiriamo le somme, ciò dovrebbe voler dire che in tre anni avrò ottenuto circa 20.000 HP/HIVE.

Attualmente questo valore rappresenta un terzo degli HP necessari per arrivare al rank di Orca: se nulla dovesse cambiare mi servirebbero perciò altri 6 anni per arrivare a 60.000 HP e diventare un'Orca.

Tanti sì, ma non tantissimi.

Ci sono poi altre due cose da considerare, una negativa ed una positiva.

Partiamo da quella **negativa**: gli HP necessari per raggiungere un qualsiasi grado aumentano con il passare del tempo.

Fra 6 anni quindi serviranno di sicuro più di 60.000 HP per diventare Orca. E' difficile dire quanti esattamente di più, ma non sarei sorpreso se fossero almeno altri 10.000.

Passiamo però all'aspetto **positivo**: più i miei HP aumentano, più è facile guadagnare altri HP.

Fra ricompense da staking e da curation i miei HP aumentano del 10% ogni anno.

In più nel tempo sto trovando anche altri modo per guadagnare altri HIVE, come ho descritto in un mio [recente post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-earning-hive-thanks-to-my-scripts-bridges-arbitrage-and-grid-trading-5sz).

Ci sono poi anche da aggiungere gli Hive Games, che ogni tanto mi danno un [piccolo boost](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@arc7icwolf/engita-golem-overlord-more-than-460-hive-earned-since-i-started-playing-this-hive-game-kg8).

Considerate tutte queste fonti ulteriori di guadagno, penso che nel tempo riuscirò a compensare l'aumento degli HP necessari per diventare Orca e, anzi, a fare anche meglio, riducendo sempre più il tempo necessario per raggiungere tale nuovo e prestigioso status.

Se dovessi azzardare una stima, penso che potrei aver bisogno di circa altri 5 anni per accumulare tutti gli HP necessari... e 5 anni non sono poi così tanti!

Chissà quindi che con un po' di pazienza, tanta costanza ed un po' di fortuna non possa arrivare un giorno non poi così lontano a tagliare un traguardo che un tempo avrei considerato assolutamente e completamente fuori dalla mia portata.
