***

*
*—No se preocupe, señor Quintero, si recuerda algún otro detalle, no dude en comunicárnoslo.*

***
Let me explain to both of you that since I witnessed that I live uneasy about many things and the interruptions of nightmares when I sleep are affecting me even more, because I can't get his face and what I saw when he finally stopped out of my head.
***

>*—I would appreciate it if you could give us your name, occupation and provide us with as many details as possible so that my colleague here can transcribe your statement into the computer —said the policeman.*
*—My name is Jotzel Quintero, I am a nurse at the central hospital, it is a little difficult for me to talk about what happened, but I will try to be clear even if it is hard for me.*
*
It happened early, I barely got to my shift, I didn't even have coffee, I didn't even have time because it was already late, I checked in, organized everything on the trays and then put them on the cart, I was supposed to be in charge of floor 6 until noon. Then I pushed the cart with that annoyance because they did not solve the noise that the wheels were making and it was intensifying my headache, it was five in the morning. The work is not so complicated, going from room to room, reading the instructions left by the doctors, changing some IVs and putting the indicated treatment to each patient, is a piece of cake really.
*
>*
However, when I arrived in room 506 I noticed that only the patient in bed two was there, I immediately thought that the others had passed away in the early morning. It always happens, someone gets discharged, they all die or sometimes they are bedridden for over a month until they die or are saved, it sounds cruel; but, I am used to doing my shift and finding empty beds or new patients, so I try not to get attached to any of them.
*
*—Excuse me, could someone buy me a whiskey? The truth is that reliving everything that happened that day makes me feel anxious, I need a shot of rum, I think it is the only way I have found to calm the paranoia that causes me to remember this, in fact I'm shaking, I feel nervous and I know I have to tell everything I saw because for me it is also important to understand the motives of that man.*
*—Mr. Quintero, we can only offer you a glass of water —replied the policeman.*
*—Water, okay, I guess.*
*—Please continue.*
*—Excuse me, of course.*
*
There was something that seemed quite strange to me and that is that the patient had been unconscious for a few days and due to his delicate state he was always in the care of a lady of no more than 60 years old and a girl, I guess they were the mother and his wife, so it was strange to find him alone that morning, despite that I continued doing my work.
*
*
However, I was very concentrated preparing the medication to administer it to the patient through the vein and suddenly I heard a noise behind me, it was like when there is a tremor and objects move causing ringing sounds, so I turned around and at that precise moment I observed that the man was shaking abruptly. Suddenly, he opened his eyes and immediately jumped out of bed, he was very scared, I could see it in his lost look, he looked like a cornered animal full of traumas.
*
*
In any case I did not have time to act and help him, he started running with his heart in his mouth and I could not think of anything else to do but chase him. Perhaps his mind was hollow, since he did not coordinate his body movements and did not care about taking people in front of him, so I can think of two hypotheses for him to do what he did, such as a reaction of his brain to some external stimulus or the possibility of paranormal forces possessing his body.
*
>*
Then I lost sight of him on the stairs, he was simply too fast for me who am rusty to run, but I didn't give up and kept looking for him, minutes later I found him in the old wing of the hospital. He was squatting near the hallway leading to the morgue, I could see his bare back because he was no longer wearing a gown, and his movements were strange as if he was desperately clawing at the pavement with both hands, I couldn't really make out what he was doing from my position, so I crept closer and noticed he was hurting his abdomen with his fingernails. He was dismembering himself alive and consuming his own flesh, viscera, as if forced by some external force, because his eyes looked lifeless.
*
*
I never thought it would affect me to see so much blood, I was supposed to be used to it because of my profession and years of experience. Besides, that smell of decomposition emanating from everything turned my stomach and I couldn't help vomiting.
*
*
Anyway, the fact of not being able to save him made me quite sick, even at this moment bringing those images to my head makes me nauseous again and although I know that I am one of the main witnesses, that is all I can contribute, I do not know, nor do I understand the reasons for that patient to reach cannibalism and eat himself until he bled to death.
*
>*
I am tired of relating this horror and not finding an explanation for their actions. I am sorry I have no more to say about it.
*
*—Don't worry, Mr. Quintero, if you remember any other details, don't hesitate to let us know.*
