Wherever you go, wherever you are, you can surely buy a bottle of Coca-Cola. It is an almost ubiquitous drink But that implies generating a lot of plastic bottles. And in fact, a new analysis states that the American company increased its production of plastic bottles last year by one billion, reaching a total of 110 billion bottles every 12 months.

The data has not been offered by the company; it has been the environmental organization Greenpeace that has decided to analyze the annual production. According to the charity, Coca-Cola has continued to increase its production in bottles in recent years, so much that it represented 59% of all its packaging in 2016.

Only a small amount of these bottles are recycled; less than half are reused, and among these, less than 10% are converted into new bottles. The most worrying, however, is that many end up polluting the seas and oceans.

The amount of plastic that currently exists in our oceans has reached proportions epochs, and finally is beginning to become aware between the population and governments. It is believed that between 5 and 15 million tons of plastic enter the oceans, and that if nothing is done to prevent it, in 2050 there will be more plastic products than fish

However, there are signs that large companies are listening to environmentalists. This year, the British department of Coca-Cola announced that it will try to increase the amount of recycled plastic in its bottles to 50%, thus improving the previous objective, which was 40% by 2020.
