Nuestro sistema respiratorio gracias a su composición anatómica permite la función de ventilación, se trata de poder captar cierta cantidad del aire que se encuentra en nuestra atmósfera y poder ser desplazado hacia nuestros pulmones y viceversa.

La ventilación es un proceso cíclico. ¿Qué significa esto? Que consta de fases repetitivas en un mismo orden, en este caso la ventilación repite dos fases; la inspiración y  la espiración.

>Ventilation is a cyclical process. What does this mean? Consisting of repetitive phases in the same order, in this case ventilation repeats two phases; inspiration and expiration.

###### Inspiración o también llamada inhalación. / Inspiration or also called inhalation. 

<br>

Es aquella fase donde entra el aire en nuestros pulmones, aquí podemos observar una característica común la cual es el aumento del volumen torácico, en esta fase actúan los músculos del diafragma junto a los músculos intercostales, ambos proceden a contraerse.

>It is that phase where the air enters our lungs, here we can observe a common characteristic which is the increase in thoracic volume, in this phase the diaphragm muscles act together with the intercostal muscles, both proceed to contract.

El diafragma desciende debido a que los pulmones están aumentando de tamaño por la entrada del aire.

>The diaphragm descends because the lungs are increasing in size from the entry of air.

Los músculos intercostales debido a su postura permiten que se elevan las costillas, de ésta manera se mantienen protegidos nuestros pulmones.

>The intercostal muscles due to their posture allow the ribs to rise, in this way our lungs are protected.

Cuando inhalamos nuestra caja torácica aumenta de tamaño debido a la entrada de aire en los pulmones junto a la contracción de los músculos.

>When we inhale, our rib cage increases in size due to the entry of air into the lungs together with the contraction of the muscles.

###### Espiración o también llamada exhalación. / Expiration or also called exhalation.

<br>

Es aquella fase donde el aire dentro de nuestros pulmones es liberado, es la fase opuesta a la inspiración. En esta fase el músculo del diafragma se relaja, las costillas vuelven a su posición normal por lo tanto el tórax vuelve a su tamaño normal debido a que los pulmones liberan el aire retenido.

>It is that phase where the air inside our lungs is released, it is the opposite phase to inspiration. In this phase the diaphragm muscle relaxes, the ribs return to their normal position, therefore the thorax returns to its normal size due to the lungs releasing the trapped air.

###### ¿Cómo se controla la ventilación? / How is ventilation controlled?

El encargado de controlar la ventilación a nivel neurológico es nuestro encéfalo, esto lo logra gracias a diversos sensores que se encuentran en nuestro sistema respiratorio, dichos sensores se encargan de captar la información requerida para que así el encéfalo envíe los impulsos hacia los músculos respiratorios encargados de realizar la ventilación.

>The person in charge of controlling ventilation at the neurological level is our brain, this is achieved thanks to various sensors found in our respiratory system, these sensors are responsible for capturing the information required so that the brain sends impulses to the respiratory muscles in charge. performing ventilation.

El proceso de ventilación puede ser voluntario o involuntario, su orden se origina desde el tallo cerebral.

Por otra parte, el patrón respiratorio es controlado por el bulbo raquídeo.

Los músculos encargados de que se haga la ventilación son:

Gracias al conocimiento del proceso de ventilación de nuestro sistema respiratorio podemos conocer como manejar ciertos parámetros en pacientes que no pueden ventilar por si mismos, esto se suele ver en servicios como UCI.

>Thanks to the knowledge of the ventilation process of our respiratory system we can know how to handle certain parameters in patients who cannot ventilate by themselves, this is usually seen in services such as ICU.
