I'm happy to bring you this review of a movie that without a doubt left me speechless, it's weird, funny, ambitious and loved by all, obviously it has all the potential to enter the list of my favorite movies. After postponing it for a long time, when we finally decided to see the long awaited movie, it was the most important award ceremony in the film industry, the 95th Oscars. After that weekend, we got down to work, with some delicious cheese bread that my mom prepares, my best friend, my family and I started to watch what in my opinion, has been **ALL a movie**.
And no wonder, because everyone has been talking about it, everyone had it as the favorite to win the award for Best Picture, and it did. But not only that, but the Academy also recognized the great performances of actors who worked for decades and finally took home their award. At first we get a glimpse into the chaotic life of Evelyn (*Michelle Yeoh*), a Chinese-American lady who runs a laundromat and the reins of a family, namely her husband Waymond (*Ke Huy Quan*), daughter Joy (*Stephanie Hsu*) and dad Gong Gong (*James Hong*). Everything tells us that none of them get along, the relationships look as chaotic as the first glimpse of their poor apartment. We even see how Waymond is about to ask her for a divorce, but in his good-natured nature, he prefers to wait for an occasion where Evelyn isn't so stressed.
Everything seems to be normal until they go to the IRS office to meet Deirdre (*Jamie Lee Curtis*). There, when they go up the elevator, Evelyn has an encounter with Alpha-Waymond, who claims to be a being from another universe who is risking everything to ask for her help, as she is the one to save all the universes from imminent destruction at the hands of a supremely powerful being with a lust for destruction and no morals whatsoever. Evelyn finds herself in doubt whether to obey the crazy things this "Alpha-Waymond" says or whether it is just a foolishness of her husband.

From this point on, the movie becomes very strange, especially because of the universe hopping, so you have to be on the edge of your seat paying attention to every detail, without missing anything, not even the background plot, which is what really grabs you. All this stuff about traveling through universes, super powers and things that to some might seem confusing, all this is for me, something they painted as the main plot, but in reality you must read between the lines, and you will get to know that the real main plot of the movie is the generational trauma, is the importance of family relationships and, not only that, but they deal with super important mental health issues, and things that I found impressive like the importance of every action you take in your life and how this could affect your whole future.
I also make honorable mention to the prominence of comedy in the film, comedy that does not become heavy, nor uncomfortable, but they show us how to incorporate comedy in a campy, eccentric and avant-garde film, with incredible messages presented in the form of art that borders on the abstract.

🚨**Spoiler Alert!!!**🚨

It has incredible character developments, not only for Evelyn, but it is impossible not to get attached to Waymond, or at a certain point, to understand all of Joy's pain. Joy was a crucial role in the plot, as she is the main villain, which our protagonist Joy decides to defend to the hilt, because it is her daughter, without realizing that everything is, in part, due to the way she herself developed a toxic relationship with her daughter.
There are scenes that have touched me deeply, turning points in protagonists that hit me and make me cry, but I would never imagine that a scene that would stay with me forever would be a dialogue between two rocks. Seeing how Evelyn and Joy are rocks in a universe, and right there they both talk about how absurd the world is and how small we are compared to a whole universe of possibilities. It's just an amazing thing about cinema, you never expect things like this and they end up becoming so important.

At the end of the film, Joy does not disappear in the donut where her suffering was supposed to end, even though everything seemed to indicate that it would. It was because Evelyn now understood things a little better that she was able to have an honest conversation with her daughter and everything in all the universes begins to make sense, as Evelyn finally manages to take an important step in her development as a person. Not only seeing the beauty of seeing the world through the eyes of kindness and love, but also starting to apply it in her life and actions, getting closer to her husband.
The final act of the film arrives and we see how everything in Evelyn's life is in order, and although not everything is perfect, she is certainly much better than she was at the beginning, closing with an encouraging final scene in the same office where all the madness begins, but now getting along with the strict Deirdre, loving her husband Waymond more, and even being able to be at peace with her daughter Joy, which I think is a perfect closure to a chaotically perfect film.

I could not give less qualification to the most awarded film throughout history, and how could it not be? It is a whole complex and strange work of art that stimulates your whole mind, makes you immerse yourself in an ocean of elements that develop an incredible and strange plot of family love and generational traumas, how you must be true to you and those you love and, of course, do not stop acting from kindness, because it is a beautiful way to fight and give battle in this world full of war and injustice.
I won't lie, I did cry, I did feel this movie, incredible dialogues, strong and personal, especially seeing the character Joy and identifying to some degree with her. Watching Evelyn develop from a character that started out not being any good at all to becoming the savior of the universes, is just majestic in a way that only a sci-fi, drama and comedy movie could have done.

And the truth is that there are many, many elements of this production that stand out: The amount of beautiful, super camp and fun costumes, the editing magic that gave us a refreshing feeling and a cast of incredibly talented actors deserving of every award they brought home. Because yes, both Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis took home Oscars for their incredible performances that stole the show.

And not only I, but the general public and critics gave it an excellent score. The professional critics rate it with an average of ***81 / 100***, making it a "**Must See**" and giving it universal acclaim, something that I think is well deserved, because I had high expectations for this film, and it managed to exceed them. My friend and I couldn't believe we had just seen a work of art, and even my family liked it, who usually doesn’t like A24 films or films that have these unconventional artistic overtones.
And I leave my small and humble review up to here, I hope you liked reading a little of my opinion about this recent gem of cinema that we have before us, that if you have not seen, it will surely leave you with your mouth open and wanting more. Estoy feliz de traerles esta reseña de una película que sin duda alguna me dejó sin palabras, es rara, chistosa, ambiciosa y amada por todos, obvio que tiene todo el potencial para entrar en la lista de mis películas favoritas. Luego de posponerla durante un buen tiempo, cuando por fin nos decidimos a ver la tan esperada película, fue la premiación más importante de la industria del cine, la entrega n° 95 de Los Oscars. Luego de ese fin de semana, nos pusimos manos a la obra, con unos deliciosos pancitos de queso que mi mamá prepara, mi mejor amigo, mi familia y yo nos pusimos a ver lo que en mi opinión, ha sido **TODA una película**.
Y es que no es para menos, porque todo el mundo ha hablado de ella, todos la tenían como la favorita a llevarse al premio de Mejor Película, y así lo hizo. Pero no solo eso, sino que La Academia también reconoció las grandes actuaciones de actores que trabajaron durante décadas y finalmente se llevaron a casa su galardón. Al principio vemos un poco de la caótica vida de Evelyn (*Michelle Yeoh*), una señora China-Estadounidense que lleva una lavandería y las riendas de una familia, es decir, su esposo Waymond (*Ke Huy Quan*), su hija Joy (*Stephanie Hsu*) y su papá Gong Gong (*James Hong*). Todo nos indica que ninguno se lleva bien, las relaciones se ven tan caóticas como la primera vista a su pobre departamento. Incluso vemos como Waymond está por pedirle el divorcio, pero en su naturaleza bondadosa, prefiere esperar a una ocasión donde no Evelyn no esté tan estresada.
Todo parece ser normal hasta que van a la oficina del IRS a encontrarse con Deirdre (*Jamie Lee Curtis*). Allí, cuando suben por el ascensor, Evelyn tiene un encuentro con Alpha-Waymond, quién dice ser un ser de otro universo que está arriesgando todo para pedirle ayuda a ella, pues es la indicada para salvar a todos los universos de una destrucción inminente a manos de un ser supremamente poderoso con ansias de destruir y sin nada de moral. Evelyn se encuentra con la duda si obedecer a las locuras que dice este “Alpha-Waymond” o es solo una bobada de su esposo.

Desde este punto, la película se vuelve muy extraña, sobre todo por los saltos entre universo, conocidos como “Saltoversos”, así que tienes que estar al filo del asiento prestando atención a cada detalle, sin dejar pasar nada, ni siquiera la trama de fondo, que es lo que realmente atrapa. Todo esto del viaje por los universos, súper poderes y cosas que a algunos les podrían parecer confusas, todo esto es para mí, algo que ellos pintaron como trama principal, pero en realidad debes leer entre líneas, y lograrás saber que la verdadera trama principal de la película es el trauma generacional, es la importancia de las relaciones familiares y, no solo eso, pero tratan temas de salud mental súper importantes, y cosas que me parecieron impresionantes como la importancia de cada acción que tomes en tu vida y como esto podría afectar todo tu futuro.
También hago mención honorífica al protagonismo de la comedia en el film, comedia que no se vuelve pesada, ni incómoda, sino que nos muestran como incorporar comedias en una película camp, excéntrica y a la vanguardia, con increíbles mensajes presentados en forma de arte que raya en lo abstracto.

Cuenta con increíbles desarrollos de personajes, no solo para Evelyn, pero nos es imposible no encariñarnos con Waymond, o en cierto punto, entender todo el dolor de Joy. Joy fue un papel crucial en la trama, pues es la villana principal, la cual nuestra protagonista Joy decide defender a capa y espada, pues se trata de su hija, sin darse cuenta que todo es, en parte, debido a la forma en la que ella misma desarrolló una relación tóxica con su hija.
Hay escenas que han llegado a tocarme en lo más profundo, puntos de inflexión en protagonistas que me pegan y me hacen llorar, pero jamás llegaría a imaginarme que una escena que se quedaría conmigo para siempre sería un diálogo entre dos rocas. Ver como Evelyn y Joy son rocas en un universo, y justo allí ambas hablan de lo absurdo que es el mundo y lo pequeño que somos en comparación con todo un universo de posibilidades. Es simplemente algo increíble del cine, nunca te esperas cosas como estas y terminan convirtiéndose en algo tan importante.

Al finalizar la película, Joy no desaparece en la dona donde se supone que terminaría su sufrimiento, a pesar de que todo parecía indicar que sí. Fue gracias a que Evelyn ahora entendía un poco mejor las cosas, que pudo tener una conversación honesta con su hija y todo en todos los universos empieza a cobrar sentido, pues Evelyn finalmente logra dar un paso importante a su desarrollo como persona. No solo viendo lo lindo de ver el mundo a través de los ojos de la amabilidad y el amor, sino también empezando a aplicarlo en su vida y acciones, acercándose más a su esposo.
Llega el acto final de la película y vemos como todo en la vida de Evelyn está en orden, y aunque no todo sea perfecto, ciertamente está mucho mejor de lo que estaba al principio, cerrando con una alentadora escena final en la misma oficina donde empieza toda la locura, pero ahora llevándose bien con la estricta Deirdre, amando más a su esposo Waymond, e incluso pudiendo estar en paz con su hija Joy, lo que me parece un cierre perfecto para una película caóticamente perfecta.

No podría darle menos calificación a la película más galardonada a lo largo de la historia, y es que ¿Cómo no lo sería? Se trata de toda una compleja y extraña obra de arte que estimula toda tu mente, te hace sumergirte en un océano de elementos que desarrollan una increíble y extraña trama del amor familiar y los traumas generacionales, de cómo debes serte fiel a ti y a quienes amas y, por supuesto, no dejar de actuar desde la amabilidad, porque es una hermosa forma de luchar y dar batalla en este mundo lleno de guerra e injusticia.
No mentiré, sí lloré, sí sentí esta película, diálogos increíbles, fuertes y personales, en especial viendo al personaje Joy e identificándome en cierto grado con ella. Ver a Evelyn desarrollar un personaje que empezó sin ser buena en absolutamente a convertirse en la salvadora de los universos, es simplemente majestuoso en una forma en la que solo una película de ciencia ficción, drama y comedia podría haberlo hecho.

Y la verdad es que hay muchísimos elementos a destacar de esta producción: La cantidad de hermosos vestuarios súper camp y divertidos, la magia de la edición que nos dio una sensación refrescante y un cast de actores increíblemente talentosos y merecedores de cada premio que llevaron a casa. Porque sí, tanto Michelle Yeoh como Ke Huy Quan y Jamie Lee Curtis se llevaron premios Oscars por sus increíbles actuaciones que se robaron el show.

Y no solo yo, pero el público general y los críticos le dieron una excelente puntuación. La crítica profesional la califica con un promedio de ***81 / 100***, convirtiéndola en un “*Debes ver*” y dándole aclamación universal, algo que me parece bien merecido, porque tenía altas expectativas para este filme, y logró superarlas. Mi amigo y yo no podíamos creer que acabábamos de ver una obra de arte, e incluso a mí familia le gustó, que por lo general no les gustan las películas de A24 o que tengan estos tintes artísticos poco convencionales.
Y dejo mi pequeña y humilde reseña hasta aquí, espero que les haya gustado leer un poco de mi opinión acerca de esta reciente joya del cine que tenemos ante nosotros, que si no han visto, de seguro los dejará con la boca abierta y con ganas de más. El filme, dividido en tres actos, solo se pone mejor a medida que avanza, pero ahora que los dejaré que opinen y me digan que tal les ha parecido, y en caso de que no lo hayan visto… ***¿¡Pues que esperan!?***
