<h4>Steem Trivia #4: Math Fun Trivia</h4>

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of my steem trivia series, where I share random trivia and facts about anything that just comes out of my mind. When I was a kid, I really find math a fun subject. So today, I will share with you some amusing math trivia that I found in the internet.

But before we start, does anyone of you know what the definition of Math is? According to [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematics), math is the study of such topic such as quantity, structure, space, and change. But actually, there is no general definition being accepted yet.

But anyway, here are some fun facts and trivia that I found while browsing the internet:


<h4>1.) Easy way to remember the first seven digits of pi (3.141592).</h4>

I admit, it is easy to remember a phrase than a set of numbers. Therefore, in order to perfectly remember a certain numbers, I assign some letters so I can easily recall them. So to help you remember the first seven of pi, just think to yourself **“how I wish I could calculate pi”**.

Did you figured out how it works? Just count the number of letters in each of the words in that phrase, easy peasy! Now you will perfectly remember the exact seven digit value of pi! And for the 2nd trivia is a quick history & fact about the equals sign, yes the “=” sign!

<h4>2.) Did you know that the most commonly used mathematical symbol, the equals sign, was invented by Welsh mathematician [Robert Recorde](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Recorde) in 1957? In his book, he explains his design of this “gemowe lines” which means twin lines.</h4>

>And to auoide the tediouſe repetition of theſe woordes : is equalle to : I will ſette as I doe often in woorke vſe, a paire of paralleles, or Gemowe lines of one lengthe, thus: =, bicauſe noe .2. thynges, can be moare equalle.

The texts then translates to “And to avoid the tedious repetition of these words: is equal to: I will set as I do often in work use, a pair of parallels, or Gemowe lines of one length, thus: =, because no 2 things, can be more equal”.

Just a quick additional info to add to this trivia about the equality sign, the original form of the equality symbol was also much wider than the present form.

<h4>3.) Did you know that you could get millionaire by solving math problems?</h4>

Yes you read it right! There is actually this set of mathematical problems labeled as the Millennium Prize Problems where you could get rewarded with 1 million USD for solving or for providing a correct solution to any of the problems.

The Millennium Prize Problems are seven mathematical problems that were stated by Clay Mathematics Institute in the year 2000. The problems are the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, Hodge conjecture, Navier–Stokes existence and smoothness, P versus NP problem, Poincaré conjecture, Riemann hypothesis, and Yang–Mills existence and mass gap.

So if you have the brain and the guts to try one, then go on, I dare you haha! By the way, out of these seven problems, only 1 has been solved yet. The problem was Poincaré conjecture, which was solved by Russian mathematician [Grigori Perelman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_Prize_Problems) in 2003.
