Idea: Add Proof of Ownership

Many Blockchains like Digibyte's [Digusign](http://digusign.com) offer this feature already.

What it does is that you can add a hash of, for example, an Image you own to the Blockchain. 
It means it will be recorded that`imagexyz` with the hash `zyx` belongs to `@user`. 

This would be very helpful for original content photographers to proof they own a photo and would improve the fight against plagiarism here on steem.

The steem blockchain already supports this in various ways.
Several object types (posts, accounts?) allow adding arbitrary JSON (meta)data.
What's missing is frontend support and a "standard" how to represent such proof in the blockchain.

This is a great idea. I don't know the technical stuff behind though. 

I'm seeing a lot of plagiarized material on Steemit - though of course these posts are either flagged or never upvoted. Still, it will be an interesting way to further fight this problem. 

The only complication would be abuse of the system where plagiarists register their content before the actual owners, but I'm sure there's a solution for that.

I think this could be useful however it may be better termed as "registration of ownership" rather than "proof". The only thing it proves is that the user claimed ownership, not validity of the claim.

Also we could have the issue of malicious actors programming bots to copy photos from the internet and claim 'ownership'. Opening up a can of worms regarding how we police and validate claims.

Adding voting and comments would certainly give it more utility. It would be like using the 'wisdom of the crowd' to help validate claims.

*However* I suspect most people voting will be relying on the claimants reputation to positively identify them as the owner. A well-established photographer (either on the platform or off it) is less likely to risk their reputation by claiming content to be theirs that isn’t. They will be implicitly trusted and get upvoted. It is very difficult for someone to positively prove they own a photo, short of filming themselves taking it or having trusted people present at the shooting to verify it.

I think a reputation system and allowing others to see users reputation might work just as well. Allowing readers to see users reputation, be it positive or negative (either by a badge or other indicator against their name) would aid them in forming a judgement on the validity of their claims to content. Obviously people will little or no skin in the game may need to work a little harder to gain trust. However it could help in combating plagiarism across the board.
