Ostatni konkurs *Feathered Friends* sprawił, że odświeżyłam sobie wspomnienia z krótkiego styczniowego urlopu w 2017 roku, który spędziliśmy na Malcie. Ta gorąca wyspa w styczniu zaoferowała nam zmienną, ale słoneczną pogodę i wspaniałe warunki do zwiedzania.  A jest co zwiedzać!

> The last contest *Feathered Friends* made me refresh my memories of the short January vacation in 2017 that we spent in Malta. This hot island in January offered us changeable but sunny weather and great sightseeing opportunities. And there is a lot to see!

## Baza wypadowa: Bugibba / Base: Bugibba
Buġibba  to niewielka miejscowość położona w północnej części Malty, znajdująca się nad Zatoką Świętego Pawła. To kurort turystyczny, w którym w sezonie kwitnie życie nocne, aczkolwiek w styczniu było raczej dość sennie. Jest to jednak bardzo dobra baza wypadowa, aby zwiedzić całą wyspę za pośrednictwem regularnie kursujących autobusów komunikacji miejskiej - nasz hotel był nieopodal zajezdni, więc miejsca siedzące mieliśmy zagwarantowane.
Z atrakcji Bugibby można wymienić Narodowe Akwarium Malty, w którym pływają płaszczki i rekiny, oraz Maltańską Kolekcję Klasycznych Samochodów. My jednak postawiliśmy na spacerowe zwiedzanie okolicy.
> Buġibba is a small town in the northern part of Malta, on St. Paul's Bay. It is a tourist resort with a thriving nightlife during the high season, although in January it was rather sleepy. However, it is a very good starting point to explore the whole island via regular public buses - our hotel was close to the depot, so we were guaranteed seats.
Bugibba's attractions include the Malta National Aquarium, where stingrays and sharks swim, and the Malta Classic Car Collection. We, however, focused on walking tour of the area.

## Valletta

Valletta jest cudowna! W tym miejscu po raz pierwszy zachwyciłam się Maltą.
Valletta posiada ponad 320 zabytków, jest więc jednym z najbardziej zagęszczonych obszarów zabytkowych na świecie. Znajduje się na liście światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO. Niekiedy nazywana „muzeum pod gołym niebem”. Jeśli jesteś pasjonatą muzeów, możesz tam spędzić mnóstwo czasu, przydatna będzie karta Malta Pass, która otwiera drzwi większości z nich. My ograniczyliśmy się do kilku, bo samo wędrowanie stromymi pięknymi uliczkami sprawiało wystarczająco dużo przyjemności.

Valletta has over 320 monuments, making it one of the most densely populated historic areas in the world. It is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Sometimes referred to as the "open-air museum". If you are passionate about museums, you can spend a lot of time there, the Malta Pass will come in handy as it opens the door to most of them. We limited ourselves to a few, because just wandering the steep beautiful streets was enough fun.

Z miejsc, które po tylu latach utkwiły mi w pamięci, mogę wskazać przede wszystkim muzeum - Pałac Casa Rocca Piccola z kolorową papużką, o którym już pisałam [tutaj](https://hive.blog/hive-106444/@asia-pl/malta-bird-feet-and-legs).

Konieczne było również wejście do paru starych kościołów, np. Kościół Matki Bożej  Zwycięskiej w Valletcie:

czy Katedra Jana Chrzciciela, w której w Oratorium znajduje się słynny obraz Michelangelo Merisiego, znanego jako Caravaggio - Ścięcie Św. Jana:

Wreszcie słynnym miejscem w Valletcie są Górne ogrody Barrakka, skąd rozpościera się piękny widok na Wielki Port, tzw. "Trzy Miasta", a także stocznię i niżej położone tereny stolicy.
> Finally, the famous place in Valletta is the Upper Barrakka Gardens, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Grand Harbor, the so-called "Tree Cities", as well as the shipyard and the lower parts of the capital.

Ogrody znajdują się na górnej kondygnacji Bastionu św. Piotra i Pawła, który został zbudowany w XVI w. Na dolnej kondygnacji bastionu znajduje się Bateria Powitalna, gdzie codziennie w południe, członkowie Malta Heritage Society (ubrani w mundury Artylerii Brytyjskiej) oddają salut armatni.
> The gardens are located on the upper floor of the Bastion of St. Peter and Paul, which was built in the 16th century. On the lower floor of the bastion there is a Saluting Battery, where every day at noon, members of the Malta Heritage Society (dressed in British Artillery uniforms) give a cannon salute.

## Wyspa Gozo / Gozo Island

Warto wybrać się na sąsiednią wyspę Gozo, drugą co do wielkości wyspę archipelagu maltańskiego. Tutaj koniecznie trzeba odwiedzić Rabat - stolicę tej wyspy, zwaną również Victorią. Tu znowu mamy masę zabytków, wąskie uliczki i niesamowite widoki.
> It is worth going to the neighboring island of Gozo, the second largest island in the Maltese archipelago. Here you must visit Rabat - the capital of this island, also known as Victoria. Here again we have a lot of monuments, narrow streets and amazing views.

Zwróćcie też uwagę, jaka ta Malta potrafi być niesamowicie zielona. Przynajmniej w styczniu :)

Na Gozo największe wrażenie jednak zrobiły na mnie megalityczne świątynie w Xagħra. Niestety nie zrobiłam zbyt wielu zdjęć, ale miejsce to jest naprawdę niesamowite. Mowa tu o **Santa Verna** - pierwotnie na tym miejscu znajdowała się wioska i świątynia megalityczna. Najstarsze znaleziska ceramiki datowane są na około 5000 lat p.n.e. - a więc są znacznie starsze niż egipskie piramidy i angielskie Stonehenge.
Pamiętam, że moją uwagę przykuły szczególnie stoły ofiarne, maleńkie laleczki dla dzieci z kamienia, oraz historie o zagładzie wioski.
> On Gozo, I was most impressed by the megalithic temples in Xagħra. Unfortunately, I didn't take too many photos, but the place is really amazing. We are talking about **Santa Verna** - originally there was a village and a megalithic temple on this site. The oldest finds of ceramics date back to around 5000 BC. - so they are much older than the Egyptian pyramids and the English Stonehenge.
I remember that my attention was especially drawn to sacrificial tables, tiny stone dolls for children, and stories about the extermination of the village.

## Mdina
Mdina, czyli Miasto Ciszy, była niegdyś stolicą wyspy, a obecnie jest niewielkim i bardzo urokliwym miasteczkiem.

## Natura i widoki / Nature and the views

Z racji rześkiej styczniowej pogody nie skupialiśmy się zanadto na plażach, ale są i one. Choć to nie plaże są głównym powodem, aby odwiedzić Maltę - oferuje ona zdecydowanie więcej.
> Due to the crisp January weather, we did not focus too much on the beaches, but they are also there. Although the beaches are not the main reason to visit Malta - it offers much more.
