Leggevo tempo fa la faccenda riguardante la statua a Montanelli prima imbrattata, poi pulita, poi di nuovo usata come se fosse un quaderno per le bombolette spry.
C'e' anche questa polemica sul
fatto, in Usa, di abbattere le statue degli eroi confederati perche, pare, ispiratrici per i coglioni che ancora pensano che il razzismo sia una cosa accettabile.
Personalmente mi disgusta ogni tentativo di abbattere statue, sopratutto (non e' il caso di quella di Montanelli) se fanno parte della storia di un paese.
Mi facevano incazzare le immagini dell'abbattimento di quelle di Lenin nei paesi post comunisti, mi infuriavo quando vedevo abbattere quelle dedicate, in quei paesi, all'eroe Sovietico che li aveva liberati.
La storia non si tira per la giacchetta, se Hitler non avesse invaso l'Unione Sovietica costringendola ad entrare in
guerra oggi saremo, probabilmente, tutti sotto i nipoti del baffetto.
In Usa la storia della liberta' per la gente di colore e' stata solo un pretesto per scatenare la guerra di seccessione, gli stati agricoli del sud volevano commerciare liberamente con l'Europa senza sottostare ai balzelli di quelli industriali del nord.
Non a caso un secolo dopo ancora i neri non potevano andare a scuola ne' prendere un autobus con i bianchi fra le altre cose.
Quindi quelle statue, anche se vittime di una adorazione fuorviante hanno un loro perche'.
Diverso, molto diverso il discorso per quella di Montanelli.
E' anche vero che da noi una statua non la si nega a nessuno visto che ne ha una pure la Arcuri...
Il problema non e' imbrattare quella statua, il problema e' che quella statua proprio non doveva esistere.
Un tizio che si e' vantato, in Abissinia, di aver comprato una sposa dodicenne dalla sua famiglia perche' tanto “ si usava cosi'” andava, una volta morto, seppellito nella notte perche' nessuno lo vedesse.
Non esistono i discorsi sul contestualizzare il periodo storico, certe cose sono porcate in pace come in guerra, allora come oggi.
E' stato un buon giornalista, senza dubbio, magari non lo apprezzavo troppo ma indubbiamente sapeva scrivere...ma una statua proprio no...oblio e silenzio.

Personally, any attempt to tear down statues disgusts me, especially (this is not the case with Montanelli's) if they are part of the history of a country.
The images of the demolition of those of Lenin in post-communist countries made me angry, I was furious when I saw the demolition of those dedicated, in those countries, to the Soviet hero who had liberated them.
History doesn't matter if Hitler hadn't invaded the Soviet Union and forced it into
war today we will probably all be under the mustache's grandchildren.
In the USA the history of freedom for people of color was only a pretext to unleash the war of secession, the agricultural states of the south wanted to trade freely with Europe without being subject to the taxes of the industrial states of the north.
It is no coincidence that a century later blacks could not go to school or take a bus with whites, among other things.
So those statues, even if they are victims of misleading worship, have their own reason.
The situation is different, very different for that of Montanelli.
It's also true that we don't deny anyone a statue since Arcuri also has one...
The problem isn't defacing that statue, the problem is that that statue really shouldn't have existed.
A guy who boasted, in Abyssinia, of having bought a twelve-year-old bride from his family because "that's how it was used" he was, once he died, buried in the night so that no one would see him.
There are no conversations about contextualizing the historical period, certain things are as dirty in peace as in war, then as now.
He was a good journalist, without a doubt, maybe I didn't appreciate him too much but he undoubtedly knew how to write... but not a statue... oblivion and silence.
