I believe we can destroy our competition by taking advantage of the steem blockchain and web of trust system we already have, with some simple additions to enable a new layer of content storage, curation and distribution. No hard-fork required

Lets shut down our "competition"

**If there's interest I'm happy to follow through and develop a working concept** - at this stage I'm sure it **could** be made, but I'm trying to figure out if it **should** be made.. **However, I also don't believe in intellectual property** - so **please** if you have the skills and interest then feel free to run with the idea. I have too many other plans already, and there are bound to be more talented people that could do this better then I can. Remember me when you're (in)famous ;)
Why is this useful?

Websites and domains are seized and censored every day, because most of the time their servers physical location is easily discovered and legal pressure can be applied automatically across the planet via email. This constant attack on free speech is why the world is finally recognizing the need for technologies like bittorrent, ipfs, bitcoin and steem.

Steemit could do everything LBRY, Zeronet and Decent can, in a way that doesn't require the average user to run anything more then a web browser. I don't like posting links to competitors.. But it's hard to even really think of them as competitors when **Decent can't even spell "blockchain" in their own whitepaper** (Section 2, pages 2 and 3..).

Simple site preparation:
This is the process to prepare a simple manual proof of concept page, discovered via steemit then served via bittorrent. This example code handles the bittorrent side of things, and could easily be modified to handle the steemit side too.

This is a simplified example, but it could really point to any kind of data we wanted to offer, and automate the whole process so the user doesnt even need to know about it. - We need the user to load the initial gateway javascript code to begin browsing the site/network , but this entry gateway code could *come from anywhere*. Clearnet, Darknet, Sneakernet it doesn't matter. - You could use @someguy123 's anonsteem and steemdns services to setup an anonymous dns pointer to the gateway code. - We then create a torrent containing the html of your actual site content you want to display, seed it and record the torrent hash. - Then use @picokernels jedi to edit your metadata and save the torrent hash to your account.
Simple site user experience:

*From the users perspective it would look like a regular site.*
- The initial gateway code could load from anywhere on any domain. - Upon loading, steemjs kicks in and searches a specific users json_metadata for the torrent hash - Webtorrent then takes that hash, finds and downloads the relevant file over bittorrent - Javascript then overwrites the page content using the torrent data instead. You can find example code geared towards the bitcoin network here , and I'm sure there are *at least* dozens of developers here that could turn that code and this post into a working poc if there's interest.

Taking the idea further..
A single basic page being discovered via steem and served up via torrent is kinda neat. But *we can go deeper.* Don't forget that **Steemit is also a reputation / web of trust network with built in encrypted messaging and payments.** **This opens up lots of creative possibilities** . - You could paywall content, take payments and send encrypted messages with new content hashes and keys to specific users in **real time** . - We can use the web-of-trust to verify safe or valuable content hashes (reviews, moderation etc) - We can auto discover new content by doing branching searches across our network of followed/following users. - We can integrate all of this across our current steemit interface , or rebrand it however we want. - We incentivize users to seed and recommend good content by splitting the rewards. The free market would work to discover the true floor cost of hosting valuable content, and this price discovery would also reinforce the value of steem itself.
I hope you can see where I'm going with this...
If we implemented some of these ideas - we could make a lot of competitors redundant . We can build on the shoulders of giants, and glue these concepts together into something even more epic than we already have.
What do you think steemit ?
**I'd love to hear feedback** on the idea, **especially** if you're *technically-minded but still don't understand* . **That's probably my fault**, and I plan to edit this post to better explain what I mean as I get feedback. PS: Please see these other recent posts from myself and my partner @krystle. - The time my town flooded, the fragility of the food supply and lessons learned (Original photos) - Meet Katana ❤ Unique Autistic Quirks Part 1 - My daughter, and some of my favourite photos - Follow the votes with streemian for autopilot curation rewards! - My vote follower list is growing :)
Thanks for reading ~ your votes help get me to steemfest!

Written by @ausbitbank - If you found it interesting please see these
@steemleak ~ steemface ~ steemviz ~ steemcap ~ steemUSD/sbdUSD indicator

I don't get what you are proposing, but I like reading (& upvoting) technical posts like this one so that I can slowly get myself acquainted with all the words & meanings coming out of all these ''about Steemit'' talks that go over my head. :-)

Really all you need to get is a distributed filesystem, which has many other uses, and not just bittorrent, something that transparently lets you mount a filesystem branch that pulls torrent from a peer to peer file storage system. Add in onion routing for transaction posting and hidden services on a DHT for file download queries, and bam! Just run the filesystem app, plug in the url with the DFS containing the relevant scripts, and voila. I think it would help a lot if there was a caching node also for the steemit blockchain, and again, OR queries and posts, have it maintain the current chain and expire content that the user does not use as it ages. This: https://steemit.com/agorism/@l0k1/agora-a-local-centric-distributed-compartmental-corporate-infrastructure describes a system that operates partly with a similar framework, and in the article I discuss an agorist, surveillance resistant business system. Obviously Agora is where it will all eventually converge. I appreciate very much and was pleased to see that my streemian curation leaders already put me onto this article, and that you also, like me, are opposed to any form of copyright system. Oh, and, one more thing, I think it's more a case of not so much 'competition' but convergence. Build bridges that link all the crypto-islands together, make the interface irrelevant, and not geographically bound.

I don't understand half of what you said but in the time I've been reading your content and my gut says you have Steemit's health, well-being and growth in mind. All righty then! Time to visit your other posts and give some love because I'm not sure how I missed them on my feed. ;) Have a great night

Could be cool to see IPFS taken advantage of here instead of bittorrent for the zeronet style applications and content storage. I have some similar ideas. But I need to do a lot more research before i figure out if they're viable. Thanks for sharing. I think the speed/scalability of graphene will be a huge plus on the side of steemit over other chains. I just hope people take advantage of it.

I agree , I used the terms ipfs and bittorrent here but technically the naming scheme from ipfs + the dht swarm of bittorrent are what im interested in for this.. It definately does need to be developed further to make sure we have a solid and logical system, but i love that anybody could choose to make this a reality *now* due to the open nature of the network :) Look forward to hearing more of your ideas
