Robots, AI, automated check out, and service bots. All potential tools of a new automated society. Serving the needs of people to bring about convenience. And in the process wiping out entire service industries and manual labor tasks. So is automating our entire economy bad? And can the older generation stomach the changes?

Like it or not the younger generation is built for an automated existence. Not knowing life without the internet these group of kids gravitate towards technology. Frankly, some couldn’t exist without iPhone/WiFi in tow. The automated changes that are occurring will probably be a welcome change for them. And in the process they will build upon the automated changes.

Now the older generation may have a difficult time processing what’s occurring in society. Some may even fight the changes specifically when it comes to job replacement. Many of the older generation currently hold high positions of power which may also make policy errors. This may in turn exacerbate a rough transition from current economy to knowledge economy.

The knowledge economy is what some of us are currently participating in. Cryptocurrency and the blockchain can be put into this category as well. Information and virtual assets are also a part of this new economy. In turn, automation and blockchain will go hand and hand.

So is automation a bad thing? I guess it depends on the perspective. On one side there will be a great deal of low end worker displacement. Some people may not like machine interaction or robotic conversation. On the other hand it will free people from mundane tasks and jobs that suck. Knowledge tasks will replace the low end spectrum creating a better way to earn a living.

Personally I welcome automation and believe it to be a good thing. Creating a better society via innovation and tech can produce more wealth and free time for all. And this I believe will ultimately change society for the better.
