Google has proven itself as the unquestioned leader in the online search industry and with increased number of Android users, at least some parts of our daily online activity is dependent on Google’s services. This name can be surprised to many but it’s true! This search engine actually enjoys 0.03% of total search engine market share globally. But if you try to search your day to day queries in WolframAlpha, it will not return any answer. It is a computational search engine also known as computational knowledge engine. It does not list the web pages or documents or videos as search results. This search engine mainly organizes its data instead of web pages. The results are computational facts. If you need help for any mathematical problems or any statistical data, you may turn to this search engine.

AOL was founded in 1985 as Quantum Computer Services by a handful of employees from the remains of Control Video Corporation (CVC), a company that sold Atari video games online. Back in 90’s, when we were using dial-up connection, AOL’s model of browser based integrated communication suite racked up huge popularity with over 30 million users globally.
However, Aol too failed to understand that changed market dynamics like Yahoo and slipped out from the competition with Google and Bing. AOL was acquired by Verizon in 2015. It currently enjoys 0.05% market share and featuring in the fourth position in our list.

Ask is not a typical search engine like Google or Yahoo or Bing. It is more of question-answer community rather than a conventional search engine. But it returns answers to a wide variety of search queries ranging from Art & Literature, Geography, Education, Politics, Technology, Science and Business etc. Ask.com closed its doors on Web search in 2009 and became completely focused on its original mission of providing a Questions-and-Answer community to the internet world. It is one of the great alternatives to Google in terms of finding human-edited content that is to-the-point and well organized.

During the initial days of internet boom in developing countries, Yahoo was one of the most used search engines and email providers of that time. However, the company couldn’t cope up with the dynamics of the changed internet market and now Verizon has taken over yahoo to re-structure their business. This search engine is available in almost 38 languages. The programming language is based on PHP and also features online products like Yahoo News, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Screen, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Answers, Yahoo Weather, Tumbler and Flicker. Yahoo search engine currently enjoys 5.05% search market share globally and ranked 2nd in the list.
 
As per the market share, a Chinese search engine Baidu is ranked third after Yahoo. However, since Baidu is only available in Chinese and not to the global market, we are skipping it from listing here.

Bing is a web search engine owned by tech-giant Microsoft. Where google now has a search market share of 77.98%, Bing managed to get a market share of 7.81% and claimed the second best search engine title. Unlike Google’s simple homepage design, Bing’s homepage has an ever-changing background consisting of places, animals, people, sports, etc.
Bing also features Bing Ads, Bing Events, Bing Finance and Bing Spots to name a few. Bing also integrates easily with Facebook, Apple and Windows-based devices. Also featuring its own standalone mobile applications, Bing is easily one of the best Google Alternatives.
