Artificial Intelligence is becoming smarter day-by-day. And now it has become smart enough to try its hands at writing -- chapter in the ‘Harry Potter’ series!

Botnik Studio, which describes itself as an open platform for augmented content creation, used its AI-based predictive text algorithm to create a three-page chapter titled “Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash.”


The AI was trained with all seven books in the popular book series. After the AI collated all the texts, human writers intervened to make it grammatically sound and readable.

“We used predictive keyboards trained on all seven books to ghostwrite this spellbinding new Harry Potter chapter,” said Botnik Studios in a tweet. The story is presented in a proper book-style format, giving it a real look and feel.


“The castle grounds snarled with a wave of magically magnified wind. The sky outside was a great black ceiling, which was full of blood. The only sounds drifting from Hagrid’s hut were the disdainful shrieks of his own furniture. Magic: it was something that Harry Potter thought was very good,” reads the first paragraph of the chapter written by the AI.

While the look and feel of the text may seem real enough, the writing certainly does not match the class of the original author, JK Rowling.

And if you read long enough, it seems little comical as well. “The Great Hall was filled with incredible moaning chandeliers and a large librarian who had decorated the sinks with books about masonry. Mountains of mice exploded. Several long pumpkins fell out of McGonagall,” says one of the paragraphs in the chapters. You can read the full chapter here.

That said, it is not the first time AI has taken a shot at ‘creating’ something. Over the years, AI has been used to write a song, movie trailer, paint and draw. While there’s a positive side of AI becoming smarter, there’s also growing concern over the possible misuse. In one of such recent examples, someone used AI to create a fake porn clip featuring Wonder Woman actor Gal Gadot.
