Funny thing is, these series of movies were produced and published by FAA for the general public, educating them. They thought everyone will fly an airplane....

yeah, none here as well.

But I am glad to report in Houston (within the City limits) there are 3 communities with their own shared runway ('airport'), they were built in the late 70s to encourage this vision...

These are really middle class subdivisions....

but the concepts never flew off the ground, even in Houston, where as you know there are lot of aircraft enthusiasts...

Does anyone in those suburbs actually own planes? 

Where I grew up, there were glider enthusiasts - but they don't really count in the same way perhaps.
