Setiap ada proyek pengerjaan jalan, khususnya jalan baru atau yang sedang di rehab, pasti kita  sering melihat banyak alat berat yang bekerja untuk menunjang proses pekerjaan. Selain pada pembuatan jalan, alat berat juga sering difungsikan pada proses pembuatan proyek kontruksi, salah satu alat berat yang sering dipakai pada ke dua proyek di atas adalah, compactor. 

Sekarang saya ingin membahas tentang alat berat yang saya sebut di atas, compactor. Saya ingin membagikan pengertian, fungsi dan juga bagaimana compactor bekerja pada sebuah proyek. Tanpa membuang banyak waktu, yuk kita masuk ke pokok pembahasan.

### <hr><center>Pengertian dan Sejarah Compactor.</center><hr>

Compactor atau dalam Bahasa mudahnya disebut dengan mesin penggilas atau juga pemadat tanah pada setiap proyek yang memerlukan kepadatan tanah, sepeerti pada proyek kontruksi bangunan atau juga badan jalan yang hendak dibangun. Dalam sejarah kemunculannya, mesin pemadat ini juga terus mengalami perubahan seiring berkembangnya teknologi.

Mesin penggilas tanah tidak hanya terdiri dari satu jenis atau tipe saja, banyak jenis compactor  yang digunakan dan beredar di pasaran, berikut sedikit uraiaan mengenai tipe alat berat jenis compactor. 

* **Mesin Pemadat Tandem.**
Tipe ini memliki berat sekitar 9 sampai dengan 14 ton,  setiap rpdanya memliki ukuran yang sama. Jenis pemadat tandem juga terdapat du pembagian lainnya, yang pertama tandem dengan dua roda (Two axle tandem roller) , dan juga dengan tiga roda (Three axel tandem roller).

* **Compactor Pemadat Getar**
Sesuai dengan namanya, proses pemadatan menggunakan tipe ini dilakukan dengan cara memberikan getaran pada objek yang ingin dipadatkan. Semakin tinggi getaran  yang dilakukan, maka sebakin padat tanah. 

* **Portable Roller.**
Di antara jenis road roller yang memliki ukuran dan berat yang sangat ringan adalah, portable roller. Portable rollor memliki ragam jenis, di antaranya ada tipe yang terdapat roda dari karet, jenis ini biasanya dimanfaatkan pada proses pemadatan di galian kecil seperti parit.

### <hr><center>Cara kerja Compactor.</center><hr>

Setiap jenis mesin atau alat berat compactor emmliki spesifikasi yang tidak sama dalam proses pengoperasian atau dalam tata cara bekerja. Namun, mayoritas jenis compactor yang saya sebutkan di atas, melakukan proses pemadatan tanah dengan cara mmenggilas terlebih dahulu sisi tepian yang rendah.

Pada saat compactor ingin pindah kea rah lain, proses ini dilakukan sewaktu mesin sedang beroperasi (berjalan) ke arah depan. Alasan dilakukan demikian supaya guide rool tidak tergeser ke  arah  drive roll, jika hal teresebut terjadi makan permukaan lapisan-lapisan akan rusak. Proses pemadatan terus dilakukan hingga pass ke 9 atau sampai dengan tingkat kepadatan yang diinginkan sudah terealisasi.

Yang perlu diperhatikan adalah, jumlah pass pada bagian belokan lebih sedikit, jika dibandingkan pass di trek yang memanjang lurus. Produksi compactor sering dicatat pada luas  yang di padatkan berdasarkan satuan atau hitungan waktu. 

Yang tidak kalah penting dalam proses pengerjaan dengan compactor adalah, orang yang bertugas mengoperasikan alat berat ini harus paham betul dan mengenali semua bagian beserta fungsi yang ada di alat berat tersebut. Lebih dari itu, orang tersebut juga harus paham bagain-bagian mana yang pertama kali harus dilakukan pemadatan, tujuannya supaya tanah padat dengan sempurna dan tahan lama.<hr><hr>
