Staying in the same company for many years

I recently completed my 13-year tenure in the company I'm working on. I'm working in one of the top payroll companies and I cannot imagine I worked in the same company for these many years. Initially, when I joined the company, I joined as a Junior consultant and the role was to do consultancy work for the clients in UK. Later I moved more towards development and today I'm developing a product that is going to be used by around 600 clients in the Netherlands. 

There have been many situations where I have thought of switching over to another company but I have not done it. I even got better offers and better monitory compensations but I did not want to switch because I loved what I was doing. One of the primary reasons why I thought that way was because in most of jobs, we might be working only on a part of the project and the exposure may not be that good. However, I have had the best opportunity where I was able to work end to end on a project that made me understand the lifecycle fully. I'm glad that I got that opportunity and I'm still happy that I have the full exposure even now.

## Locked inside my comfort zone

Sometimes I used to wonder if I was locked inside my comfort zone. In a way, it is very true and I agree to the fact that I'm inside my comfort zone and I don't feel like coming out of it. That's also one of the strongest reasons why I would like to stay in the same company. But in addition to that comfort zone, I have also made sure that my profile gets updated every 6 months. I have a principle where once in 6 months when I review my skills, I should have something extra and I should have accomplished something in the last 6 months. That's what satisfies me. 

I would say it is okay to stay inside the comfort zone if we can do what we want by being inside the comfort zone itself. I initially thought if I should explore outside. The main reason why I might have to go is for money but I'm happy to compromise money for the other benefits I'm getting in the current job. Monitory benefits are important and that's one thing but other benefits like work-life balance are also very important.

## Hoping this to be my first and last employer

In all these years, I have found out that it is very hard for me to work for someone. Unless I find something amusing, I would work otherwise I will not work if someone wants to extract work from me. This has always been the case. So far in the last 13 years, I have had some best managers who will always have my respect because they were wonderful and treated me very well. I don't know for how many more years this will be the case. I would like to continue working in the same company but what if the company is not willing to have me further? There can be such situations. 

That's why I thought this current company should be my first and last employer. The reason is that I would like to become an employee and would like to give a salary to others rather than taking it from someone else. Let's see.

Man, even incompleted 13 years with my current organization in March. Almost everything you wrote above matches. Just that you have work life balance at your organisation but I don't. Lol

13 years working for someone, that is huge tolerance. Was it not choky for you all throughout those years. Some people will not have had the patient to hold till even 6 years before quitting the job. I think the trend that is reigning now is everyone wants to be self employed

Congrats on the milestone. I spent 8 years with Apple as my longest running 'job' and will never work for someone like that ever again. I would rather be tight on funds but be doing what I love instead of wasting away working for another corporation. Living the 9-5 life works for a lot of people, I am just not one of them.
