Undoubtedly, Vyborg is a port city. Both now and especially before, the location on the Baltic Sea was of great importance for the state and the city itself. I think that it was the port that was the basis of all urban development. Stone fortifications were built to protect it, city houses were built to serve it.

In addition, the city is located at an important strategic point on the world map. For this reason, he often changed his masters. The winners in another war left the city behind them.

I do not know how important the location of this city is now in terms of geopolitics. Apparently it's still important. But I am more interested in this place in terms of history, architecture and photography. In this city, different eras and different styles are mixed. Moreover, underground, under the old city, according to legend, there is a second city. I know one entrance there, but that's some other time.

Some of these photos may have been used by me in earlier posts, but they were definitely in a different version of processing and a different context. This time I want to focus specifically on the port part of Vyborg and processed the photo a little in an aged form of photographs faded from time to time. I'm still looking for the processing style that best suits a series of photos about old Vyborg. Consider this part of the experiment.

Most of all I like to photograph harbor cranes. They are like living beings. And looking at them, you know exactly where they are. They are in the port.

There are not very convenient approaches for choosing a shooting angle. The old streets are quite narrow and there is little space.

The port is not only berths and cranes. In front of you is a navigation sign. I think that it is still valid, although it looks old-fashioned.

Older houses can be found next to modern houses. Let's take a closer look at one of them.

I think that a high blank wall used to adjoin another house that was destroyed by war or time. These three windows probably came later.
I'm not sure, but perhaps this house can be attributed to the beginning of the last century, or maybe even earlier.

Эти горбатые узкие улочки являются окраиной старой части Выборга, который расположен на каменном холме. Многое здесь просит ремонта, ухода, но мне нравятся эти старые формы и текстуры. В них запечатано время, по ним мы можем косвенно судить о нашем прошлом.
