Today, I decided to take a break from a series of 1977 postage maros issued in the USSR, which depict icebreakers.
But, the postage stamp I want to present to you today is closely related to the previous series and icebreakers.
This postage stamp is dedicated to the Centenary of the Russian, polar explorer Georgy Yakovlevich Sedov.
Like polar explorers, whose expeditions were not always successful, thanks to the publications begun, I found out that, in my collection, one postage stamp from the 1977 series "National icebreaker fleet" was missing, on which Icebreaker "Amguema" should be depicted.
On one side, I was upset, the expedition reached a dead end, but, on the other hand, over time, I know what I need to look for during a new expedition.
As I said earlier, many mailing marks are interconnected with each other.
Below, you can see the icebreaker, which was named after Georgy Sedov, and it encourages us to learn more about this navigator.
In turn, looking at the postage stamp with the image of Sedov, and having studied his history, we can find out that an icebreaker was named after him.
All this expands our horizons and as a result, you will become a champion in solving crossfords, lol.
Georgy Sedov led an expedition to the North Pole. He had to overcome 2000 kilometers, but could not.
He set out on this difficult journey on a ship unsuitable for such a journey on the sailing-steam schooner "Holy Great Martyr Phoca".
As a result, only 200 kilometers traveled out of 2000 and the ship was trapped in ice.
The brave navigator was killed.
But his feat is displayed on this postage stamp with a denomination of 4 kopecks of the USSR and with a circulation of 4,000,000 copies.
In my collection there is a clean and canceled postage stamp in excellent condition.
Later, I will continue the story about icebreakers, which, now, will be depicted on a series of postage stamps issued in the USSR in 1978, but for now, I suggest taking a look at this postage stamp.
