<div class="text-justify"> Con este breve relato quiero participar en el “Extraño Concurso No. 25. Fuego” propuesto por @saulos para este fin de semana. Para el cual tomaremos como punto de partida la imagen que ilustra este post. Espero que les guste. </div>

**EL SACRIFICIO**

<div class="text-justify"> La ceremonia estaba por empezar, en medio de la noche sólo las antorchas iluminaban la oscuridad. La joven virgen Quetzalli que iba a ser sacrificada, estaba atada sobre la losa de piedra, sus padres debían presenciar como el gran Moctezuma clavaba el puñal en su corazón para aplacar la furia de los dioses.</div>

<div class="text-justify">El gran cacique subió las escaleras mientras sonaban los tambores. La madre de la muchacha lloraba, lo hacía sin estruendo, silenciosamente. Era un honor ser la elegida, salvar a toda la comunidad y que nuevamente tuvieran buenas cosechas y ganaran todas las guerras por venir. </div>

<div class="text-justify">Por un momento el viento empezó a soplar con fuerza, parecía que iba a apagar las antorchas. El pueblo congregado miraba hacia la losa, hacia la joven indefensa y hacia el cielo estrellado. Esperando con excitación. Una vez más el orden regresaría. Y la lluvia volvería a mojar los campos. </div>

<div class="text-justify">Moctezuma llegó finalmente a lo más alto del templo. Donde se encontraba la losa. Todo quedó en silencio. Sacó el puñal, para cumplir el ritual sagrado. Al ver a la bella joven Quetzalli, que no mostraba pánico, como las otras, sus ojos que brillaban al verlo, por única vez el cacique azteca dudó un instante, antes de cumplir el ritual anual de sangre.

**THE SACRIFICE**

<div class="text-justify"> The ceremony was about to begin, in the middle of the night only the torches illuminated the darkness. The young virgin Quetzalli who was to be sacrificed was tied on the stone slab, her parents were to witness how the great Moctezuma plunged the dagger into her heart to appease the fury of the gods. </div>

<div class="text-justify">The great cacique climbed the stairs while the drums sounded. The girl's mother cried, she did it without noise, silently. It was an honor to be the chosen one, to save the whole community and once again have good harvests and win all the wars to come. </div>

<div class="text-justify">For a moment the wind began to blow strongly, it seemed that it was going to extinguish the torches. The assembled people looked towards the slab, towards the helpless girl and towards the starry sky. Waiting with excitement. Once again order would return. And the rain would once again wet the fields. </div>

<div class="text-justify"> Montezuma finally reached the top of the temple. Where the slab was located. All was silent. He took out his dagger, to fulfill the sacred ritual. Seeing the beautiful young Quetzalli, who did not show panic, like the others, her eyes shining at the sight of him, for the only time the Aztec cacique hesitated for a moment, before fulfilling the annual ritual of blood.</div>
