Baby Proofing The Cot (Part 5)

Continuing from [this post](https://peakd.com/motherhood/@bearone/baby-proofing-the-cot-part-4) I finished sewing the other end, washed the covers and that was it. They never made it to the cot because the mattress topper that we bought for the padding, no matter how much we aired it, smelled toxic.

Hubby said to chuck it but I loathe wasting money and since we got the King Size topper..... 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm airing it out some more and hoping a week of airing out will help.

I'm really hoping the airing out works because they make awesome floor mats. We actually love them as floor mats and used them on the floor before we decided that smell isn't going away.

# Cot Rail Guards
Because of the pong issue with the padding I thought it would be best not to put it on the cot rails since Bella will be clamping her choppers on it. Instead I doubled the fleece over so it's not exactly padded but at least there's a bit of a buffer between her and the wood. Since theres no padding it means it was quicker to put together the straps however was laborious.

1. Sew together with fabric outside in
2. Once seen, turn the fabric inside out and sew both ends together
3. Sew both ends again to create two borders
4. Place the padding on the rail, take the straps and stick velcro pieces
5. Take velcro apart and sew them on to straps.

There's 8 straps.... It took a couple of hours, special thanks to the sticky velcro backs that kept messing with the needle.

I got there eventually. This is what it looks like.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to sew the straps on the fleece cover so it's easier to wash. Instead of having 9 pieces to hang and gather come washing time, I only need to chuck 1 piece in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If I were to do that, the next question is, where abouts so I sew to secure the straps on?

That's pretty much where I'm at with the cot guards. The next and last bit I need to sew are the cot bar guards, but since we're still working out the padding problem that bit will just have to wait for now.

Stay tuned!

They're super cute!

Though as a benignly neglectful parent I feel like you're going way above and beyond the top XD

[looks up mattress topper] they look like mattress protectors so I'm going to assume they're the same thing with different names. Have you already tried the extra long hot wash thing with it? (or long cold wash if it can't go in hot) Good luck, hope it stops smelling toxic, otherwise for once I might be inclined to agree with hubby :S
