He stared, scratching his chin in an absentminded manner. He yawned. He returned to staring at his laptop, god he was bored, he thought, and tired. He was bored with youtube, bored with the internet. He yawned again, everything seemed so predictable, the usual conspiracy theories, he knew them all. The forums had heard his arguments. He wasn't interested in watching any films, all full of illumnati symbolism, he hated anything Hollywood. He wasn't a gamer but he had even thought of trying one of the more popular ones. It had taken maybe 2 minutes for him to log out. He had turned to Twitter with little hope of entertainment, but, he thought, it was better than Reddit which had always seemed like a bunch of rowdy teens trying to outweird each other.
The tweets filled his screen with a seemingly endless scroll of inane chatter, god he was fucking bored he thought sullenly.

He clicked on the reply icon, whether it was the boredom that drove him or something else he wasnt sure, but before he was really aware of why he had done it there was his reply already it had appeared in the now strangely quiet twitterworld.  He realised he must have clicked straight to the timeline of that profile without actually consciously deciding to do so.

He looked at the tweet he was slightly bemused but bored enough to go with this as his nights entertainment.

Oh, right, ok, he thought, that brightens  things up a little.

__northman28__ _no door?_
__intrinsicallyexternal__ _thats right no door_

He sat trying to think for a moment. This didnt make much sense, he thought, what the hell was she on about? no door? He wondered if he had a 'live one' and was contemplating whether or not he should have pizza.

He frowned. 

__northman28__  _you went in through a door that is now gone?_

__intriniscallyexternal__ _perfectly ordinary door worked fine, i opened it entered the room saw nothing here, turn to leave no door_

He rubbed his forehead, he screwed up his face,  he then dragged the palm of his hand over his face and thought, well suppose I was bored, but this makes no sense.

He laughed a little, he was starting to like this woman, despite himself. 

__northman28__ _ok how about knocking or tapping all over the walls? try that?_

He watched the screen, he kept refeshing the page, he waited.

__intrinsicallyexternal__  _nothing :(_
__northman28__ _is it day time? where you are i mean_
__intrinsicallyexternal__ _it was when i etered but theres no window my phone says its just after 2pm_
__northman28__ _ok try switching the light off maybe something will show up in dark?_

She was right, he thought, and now he felt embarrassed that he had said it.

He sat back in his chair, this was turning into a bit of a mystery, must be an ARG he decided.
The pizza idea entered his mind once more, enticing him away from the laptop.

ok, he typed and wandered off in search of pizza.
His mind stayed with the woman though, if it was an ARG then why couldnt he find anything about it? He chewed slowly on a mouthful of cold pizza. He had searched all the usual sites, nothing, no new ARG happening. He went on a forum or two, one was actually active, but drew nothing. 
He went back to Twitter.
His forehead creased in puzzlement, he had kept the tab open, nothing should have changed, he even briefly wondered if he had been hacked, had someone somehow managed to remote control of his computer? The screen showed Twitter, it gleefully blinked at him  a continuing bland conversation of a zillion people all communicating in buzzwords and catchphrases. He hadn't changed anything; it should still be on her profile, her timeline, it should be showing his and her tweets.
No one else had interacted with either of them.
He tried to find her profile.
There was nothing.

The  cat hissed and scratched at him.
"Sorry puss, didn't see you. Your fault anyway, if you didn't get in the way then you wouldnt get stood on" he said and laughed.
He sat at his desktop and tried to figure out how he would find this woman again. He hoped it was an ARG and he hoped it would be a good one. He figured it must be, or he wouldnt be sat staring at his computer at 3am.
He loaded Twitter.

He almost gasped,

Shit, he thought, this was starting to feel like some kind of relationship. He laughed at himself, need to give my head a shake he thought, probably lack of sleep.

__northman28__ _still no door then?_

He felt stupid when he saw his tweet; course there's no fucking door, he muttered internally.

__intrinsicallyexternal__ _nope :(_
__intrinsicallyexternal__ _im hungry now :( and i want to go home_
__northman28__ _i take it you tried yelling?_
__intrinsicallyexternal__ _yup :( til my throat was sore_
__intrinsicallyexternal__ _then i had a good crying session_

He felt a lurch deep in his stomach, suddenly he was afraid for her. He reminded himself that it was just another ARG

He clicked screensave without hesitation; he wanted proof this time, a record of what they had said, plus if it was an ARG  it would give him something to analyse.
He blinked. 
It was gone.
The screen was showing the endless drivel of fifty thousand people tweeting.

He checked his folder, it was there, it had saved and he felt relief.
The website took him to a strange videohosting site he had never heard of before.  It appeared like it was a rudimentary version of Youtube; nothing fancy, not even a homepage icon. There just a few channels, maybe ten in all. 
There it was; the first one, a channel named _instrinsicallyexternal_  it must be her, he thought and clicked.
There weren't many videos, he chose the first one, though none had any kind of thumbnail to indicate content; just an icon and a number.
The white screen played for a few minutes then a playback of a tape began. 
It showed a plain room; four pale grey walls, a dark grey floor, a white ceiling, a woman curled up in the corner softly sobbing, it was her.
 He watched, silently staring, his eyes starting to redden with stress he willed the white screen to show something.  It was probably not that long but it felt like  it lasted a long 5 minutes then cut to what seemed like a huge, bright, white, space. It was filled, in regular rows, with large white boxes, each around the size of a small room. The camera angle was above one of them, on the top he could see

The video ended.
He tried another.
The same scene began again; the same room, the same woman, this time she was sat quietly staring, at nothing.
He tried another.
Again, the same room, this time the woman was hitting all the walls, punching, flailing wildly, she launched herself in attack at the wall while shouting and crying.
He went through them all, and in each she was more distressed, he didn't want to admit to himself that he was scared.
If this was an ARG then it had a really good team working on it; the camera work was film quality, the effects were strikingly realistic, more so than CGI, he mused internally.
He tried another one of the channels, again no identification, just the channel and a name after it.
He realised that all the channels seemed to be named _intrinsicallyexternal_  
He clicked on one. The white screen began to show the same room, same grey walls, the only change was that this time there was an old man banging  his fists on the walls, cursing in language that was worse than his own. He watched, morbidly fascinated as the old man screamed curses at the empty room.
The screen now showed the vast white space filled with boxes for what seemed like infinity. He found it hard to take in
he looked to the top of the box that  was nearest and it said;

He looked at the tops of those boxes he could make out they all had the same thing but each time the number was dfferent.
He tried another channel.
It showed the same grey walls, dark grey floor....except for the skeleton, it lay fragile, dessicated, and on the point of crumbling into dust, in the corner of the room.
Scowling his  chose another channel, amd he baulked as he watched the next video. The corpse it held in the corner of this room had reached a visually distressing state of putrifaction.
By now he was unable to stop himself and hurriedly he tried another channel. In the room along with the same pale grey walls, and on the same grey floor there was a small baby. It's pale, emaciated body was clearly on the verge of death and he did emit a  short, strangled cry of disbelief at this horrific scene. He wanted to reach through the screen, save the baby, be the hero. He couldn't stand it anymore and he slumped in his chair. His brain wasnt really able to comprehend any of this being real, it couldn't be, he told himself once more it was just an extremely good ARG....

It was a bright morning, the sunshine glaring in through the windows was sharp and hurt his eyes. He drew the curtains, drank some coffee and sat hunched over at his computer. Once more he stared, feeling numb, at the screen and it showed each box had a different number, with the letters SCH, obviously, he thought to himself, the number was to identify the victims. He furrowed his brow, his brain was working over time, he was trying to figure out what the letters SCH meant.
He thought about the name _intrinsicallyexternal_ there had to be a clue in that....something intrinsic... that meant inside, something within, he was sure but googled it just to get a correct definition.
Yup inside, he confirmed to himself. He doodled as he continued his thought path, external, hmm, outside. His thoughts were now locked into the right path he could feel it, so inside, outside.

What the hell did this all mean? he thought, and he sat disconsolate, he felt his brain beginning to complain at all the work it was having to do.
For want of anything better he just started typing SCH into the search bar but it was such a vague search term it provided nothing of any use. He fiddled with the pencil he had been doodling with, while the cogs of his brain whirred and he slowly realised he had doodled the vast space with the boxes. He stared at his doodle... row upon row of boxes... each with a person stuck inside.  Some dead, some alive, some barely so. His brain could not let go of this but was tired of thinking about it and looking at the scribbles he saw he had doodled a cat sat on one of the boxes, why had he doodled a cat? He half laughed as it came to him Schroedingers cat, then his face showed the lightbulb moment, though this was a look of horror rather than inspiration, this was a cold sweat of nauseating realisation. He had figured it out, the ARG was based on the cat experiment, except with humans?
He hoped with more intensity than he had ever felt, he more than hoped; he was wishing,  he was silently begging, that it was just an ARG.

"Just pop to the shop for us" she said and he agreed, helping his mum would take his mind off things, he wandered to the post office first.
"Just up the stairs sir, second on the left" the old woman said and he duly went up the stairs, he knocked first. There was lack of any reply he decided to go in and he turned the doorknob and entered the room, oh must be the wrong room he thought and turned to go back out, there was no door, in fact now that he looked these four walls were a familiar pale grey colour.
