Do you still trust banks?

Every time the Nigerian government makes the headlines, it is usually about something ridiculous. It's not that good things aren't happening in the country, it's just the overwhelming nature of the ridiculous policies and decisions tend to be loud.

I don't know if it's a common thing in other parts of the world for the bank to *take out funds* from accounts that have been dormant for a certain period, but that's the situation we have here.

A couple of days ago, I stumbled into a story that talked about a special crisis fund. It is self-explanatory, and you know, I'd have commended this idea if it wasn't shrouded in misappropriation and a tub full of *weirdness*

The story is that the federal government signed a new act into existence that literally allows them "loan" money from certain 6-year old dormant accounts. The act read:

> *Any unclaimed dividend of a public limited liability company quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and any unutilised amounts in a dormant bank account maintained in or by a deposit money bank which has remained unclaimed or unutilised for a period of not less than six years from the date of declaring the dividend or domiciling the funds in a bank account shall be transferred immediately to the trust fund*<sub>[source](https://www.thecable.ng/fg-to-borrow-dormant-account-balances-unclaimed-dividends/amp)</sub>

Okay I get it, we're broke and you need these funds. However, we didn't know that you could just waltz into our account and take out whatever the hell you want from our account. 

### The Banks are in on it 

Well yeah, I know banks' hands since they have to do whatever the central bank tells them but the fact that not a single notification was sent about this decision going on the background leaves a funky taste in my mouth. 

I mean, we never trusted you anyways and as @mistakili points out, [we're already moving most of our assets to crypto](https://leofinance.io/@mistakili/look-how-nigerian-government-is-fostering-crypto-adoption-with-new-cbn-law) but this recent one really exudes the underlying arrogance and impunity that most big corporations in Nigeria operate with. 

The banks only cater to the needs of the cartel; you know, their fellow big corporations, and government officials. They know damn well that as long as they keep top brass happy, they can do whatever the hell they like and not be held accountable for it. At the end of the day, the system favours the big man, the 1% or whatever you refer to them as.  Welp, nothing to see here.

I don't and never have. Thank God today we have cryptocurrencies so that we can have that freedom that banks take from us.

I don't need the bank if I can be my own bank through my crypto. Just be careful with my passwords and never forget them hahaha ...

The path will be that of more people migrating from fictional currencies to cryptocurrencies. It is a path of no return.

Once people realise it, they'll never go back. The only Mony I keep in my bank account, is money that I intend to.blow. everything else stays cryptolised.

I believe it will not be long before more people can have more than 90% of their finances based on cryptocurrencies. It is the future and it is exciting.

Today cryptoactive products are helping me a lot to put food in my house for my family. HIVE and LEO are where I get this income from, because if it weren't for them I wouldn't even know what my life would be like here.

I see many people unemployed as well as me because of the pandemic and do not know how to resort to anything else to get money. If they knew how much we can have of infinite possibilities at Hive, I believe they would be here. These people need to know and we will continue to do our job, which is to spread the word.

This is one of the disadvantage of a centralized banking system, full of tall orders, unfavorable policies by the federal government and financial bodies. No one in his/her rightful mind will ever see the need buying shares in the stock exchange but will rather see the need of investing their money on cryptos. Now is the time to sensitize as much as many possible Nigerian investors, creating awareness of a decentralized platform like the #leofinance and #hive where there can stake their token and have 100% control of their investment since our financial institutions are no more safe. I have never invested in shares, but I know that it is a great investment in equity and in the future I hope that a part of my cryptocurrency income will be transferred in shares. It is good to diversify our investments and balancing both crypto and stocks I believe to be a good strategy.

In the United States, I can think of a couple of similar things. If a bank tries to contact you and they can't, then they are required to send your money to the secretary of state in the state that you live in. This goes for any company that owes you money. If this happens to you then you will have to contact the secretary of state to claim your money back.

The thing that I see banks doing in the U.S. is that they sometimes charge "inactivity fees" and this allows them to take money from you directly or they change the fee structure of an account without notifying you and if you haven't checked that account for a long time, they start slowly siphoning away cash from your account like it's their own personal BTC faucet.

Lmao banks are ripping people off and the worst part is that they actually make ~~suckers~~ customers pay bank charges for all this crap. 

In Nigeria, you're going to go through a rigorous bureaucratic process to get any fund that was taken out of your account by the banks that are supposed to protect you. They'll ask you for all sorts of documents that they didn't ask for when you put the money there.
