Ah, thankfully the early winter weather has eased up a bit... and I've ticked a whole bucket load of things off the upcoming concert list... so, that means that I can spend a little bit of time in the garden just tidying up the little bits of odd jobs that need to be done. And continue preparing the back area for the building of a retaining wall that will hold the wicker beds for veggies.

First up was a staking of the bushes in the front near the carport. These little natives have taken hold quite quickly and are growing fast... and they have outgrown the original little stakes that they came with and are starting to bend towards the morning Sun. I do want to train them to be a bit more upright until they are a bit bushier, so I got some much longer stakes so that I could tie them and hopefully keep them more vertical until they have a stronger main stem. I'm thinking that I might need to prune them so that they bush out?

The tomato and zucchini plants aren't dealing with the combination of our neglect and the cold winter frost... I probably should just cut them back and get rid of the dead parts. Not today... tomorrow.

![A Nice Morning in the Garden.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bengy/Ep1XSfMg6y83sqFudj1rZrvzVvVpn4VgkLGcSnquNLCcWUpFHNvw4NVbh6aDjqRunDE.jpg)

Meanwhile, at the back... near where the heat-pump radiators for the air-conditioning and the hot water system have been installed... the excess water and condensation is making the earth and soil a bit too wet. It hasn't helped that I've let the grass and ground cover grow over it like crazy (this is photographed AFTER clearing...)... so, I figured that I should rip out as much as possible so that the ground has a chance of drying up a little?

![A Nice Morning in the Garden.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bengy/EogMP5vNhsR8NZYfWALxhSn2ZUx25ZZBCaWb32WkefHnbU3aJEErirxUWSA4VofP4tm.jpg)

This is the area under the hot water heat-pump.... the other side used to look like this! And the ground that isn't drainage gravel is REALLY soggy! Probably not a great thing...

![A Nice Morning in the Garden.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bengy/EoEr2VNSxX3KvAAB2qz4MwDq5GQXW37sdf43FHCw4E2v9vNtu2EgkbLVKsDdijmNMq1.jpg)

Meanwhile, on the retaining wall side of the path... I have to level off the earth so that we can start on replacing the old timbers. However, this hardy grass has taken root over our months of neglect and procrastination, and I am needing to uproot it all before I shift the earth and the problem to a new area. As you can see, the roots of the grass are quite deep and grow in a huge network... much like the passionfruit vines that are my problem at the front. Thankfully, this is all contained in the retaining wall earth section... so, I can just dig it all out and sort through the debris to get all the roots. Much easier than the passionfruit!

Phew... that was enough for a morning's work of clearing grass! I probably should start practicing...

Haha... yes, I probably should do more practice and less gardening... but it is a nice way to spend an hour or two in the morning after dropping the kids off at school.
