Bricks (again) and Tomatoes

Sigh... it wasn't that long ago when I had moved those bricks in from the street to where they are currently standing... and I didn't think that I would need to have to move them again until we were actually placing them on the walls. 

But... as luck would have it, a big storm hit the east of Australia and it damaged that tree in the background there... lots of limbs came down, and one narrowly missed the neighbour's house! Seriously, 10 centimetres (for the American's, it is a flea's dick in width) at most! It was just touching their back door! 

Anyway, that means that we might now have approval to take down the huge tree as it is now top heavy and one sided... and it has already been shown to fail. And if that happens, the bricks are in the way of machinery that will be needed to move the logs away. 

... and even if it doesn't, there are all the branches and limbs that need to be dragged to the street to be mulched later in the week. 

Anyway, that little drama is a story for later... no heavy damage, and no injuries. Thankfully!

So, the bricks need to move to the lower level... about 10 metres away! ARGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGH!!!!!!! So, I'm travelling a bit in a week's time for work... and so, I need to get these 6 pallets of bricks down and out of the way before the end of the week... just in case, so that the arborist has clear access.

I managed two pallets today... but stopped there... it is pretty warm, and I don't need to strain myself before a month of concerts. So, I finished up with a bit of easier work... these tomatoes need to be tidied up and restaked... and the capsicum plants are now completely overshadowed and will need to be moved into a free space in the neighbouring container.

... there used to be spinach here, but it now has all been eaten and removed. So, two free spots for two capsiucum plants!

We also have another free container at the end of the row... this used to be lettuce... but we were reaching the end of those, they were starting to get pretty bitter and the kids weren't wanting to eat them anymore. So, out they came... not sure what is going in next. Probably strawberries being moved from a different area where they aren't getting enough sun and carrots from seed.

Woohoo.. these tomato plants now look a little bit tidier... tied up with higher stakes and more stakes for the really unruly ones, and clipped and trimmed as well. More sun and space for everyone!

Yep... part of the fallen limbs pile... one here, and another one in a different location nearer to the street.

More than enough space for the two capsicum plants... generous holes dug, and then watered heavily.

This was the easier one to remove...

... and making sure that I take as much of the soil and roots as possible. It is probably a stressful enough operation for the poor plants...

... and successfully moved. Well, I guess I shouldn't say that until the end of the week. A generous watering, that I probably should keep doing for the rest of the week to help them take hold again.

I suddenly felt sad when you mentioned tomatoes and when I saw your garden. The government in my area destroyed my plants and confiscated my private tools. I can't blame them since this is their country, and the land where I planted fruits and vegetables isn't mine. However, what they did was not right. ='(
