I asked a colleague of mine who only ever dated older men. I asked her what was the difference between 20 something and 30 something year old men.

Her reference point for 20 something men were her friends. 

What she said - I couldn't forget.

*"20 something men don't know what they want. It's almost as if you have to babysit them."*

A generalization? Perhaps. She continued:

*"30 something men already know what they want... In a single word - the difference is security."*

I asked further: 

"You mean as in financially secure?"

*"No. As in their thinking and their behavior."*

# The key difference

Honestly, I've had friends who are younger than me who are mature beyond their years and I have met older men who still don't know what they want in life. 

But this post isn't about age. It's about self-awareness. 

I used to think the advantage older men have is their financial stability but little did I know it was the fact that they fortified their mind to look for what it is they want. 

They have experimented and experienced life in their 20’s to know what they want and what they are best at. 

# So, what can you do with this information? 

Start experimenting. The journey to self-discovery starts when you do deliberate exploration. 

It's the common wisdom dispelled to those with past relationships - the more you date, the more you know what type of people you are most compatible with. 

Never try, never know (if it's good or if it's what you want). 

This applies to both relationships and life goals. 

I used to think journalism was the career for me until I had a taste of it in high school. I absolutely… **hated** it. 

I hated the fact that I had run and gun interviewees, be at scenes of agreed importance, etc.

I’m glad I had that experience otherwise I would have taken a journalism degree and regret it. 

**Never try, never know.**

Explore the things you always wanted to explore - it could be raving, learning piano, surfing, vlogging, dating a foreigner, anything. 

The more you try, the more you know what's best for you. 

And only **you** can find out.
