Jesus teaches us about the third eye: "Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness", Luke 11:34

Jesus explains that the third eye, the eye of the mind serves to see, perceive, and illuminate the body. The eye is an organ of perception for the mind.  So as there are physical eyes to perceive the sensitive reality there are also spiritual eyes to perceive the inmaterial objects, the objects that can only be perceived with intelligence.  That's why opening the third eye is opening the intelligence: "Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures", Luke 24:45
See the world with the eyes of a child, with the eyes of a spiritual childhood, this is the true meaning of the third eye.
The opening of the intelligence is related to the beatitude: "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God", Matthew 5:8, or put in another way, "to see God with the eyes of the mind".
For Jesus an enlightened body is a healthy body, that is why to "see God" is related to immortality: "To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life", Romans 2:7
The immortaliy is a spiritual gift: "In the familiarity with the wisdom is the immortality", Wisdom 8:17. God is immortal and he can transmit to us in a limited way his immortality in the physical plane, immortality is longevity. As Matusalen, or Job, God blessed them and gave them many years of life.
The opening of the third eye occurs after the Gnosis ("For everyone will be salted with fire", Mark 9:49), and is a result of the contemplative activity, the meditation focused in the divine attributes of God: "This is the eternal life, that they may know you the only true God", John 17:3
The opening of the third eye completes the perception of the "ordering principle of the universe", and this is the whole understanding or comprehension of the beatitudes given in the sermon of the mount. The beatitudes are the logical aspect of God and the perception of its mysteries is only possible through the third eye.
