I too am tired of people using the #steemit hashtag so loosely. I have seen people using it in cases where the word steemit isn't even in the context of their post.

This is such simple advice, but it should be followed to a T. Actually this system I proposed would allow users to see why their content was flagged and if it is spam or tagged incorrectly the poster would be able to see why. 

I strongly dislike the current flagging system, because people can simply disagree or be jealous of your content, flag it, and not be held accountable.

At this point I value your comments on posts as much as upvotes. I know a comment being upvoted by you is valuable, but that can't be expected to happen often unless a user consistently creates thought provoking content or something far beyond a simple sentence.

Your comments on my proposed flagging system overhaul can open a dialogue with all users because you are followed not only because of your whale title, but because you are so heavily invested, you want to do what's best long term for steemit. 

A short term gain pales in comparison to creating a system that keeps users happy and engaged and will pay dividends tenfold or more as new users join and add their unique voice without fear that disagreeing or offering an opposing viewpoint will cause them to be flagged. 

I think honest critical discussions can occur when a tarnished reputation doesn't when people can be real and raw. Discussions like those between  @steve-walschot and @dollarvigilante on the [Are We Only Here To Feed The Narcissists](https://steemit.com/steemit/@steve-walschot/are-we-only-here-to-feed-the-narcissists) post.

Hopefully this system is as important to you as I, but I realize your whale song reaches more users than my simple minnow splashing.

Agreed. Congress created lobbyists as a voice of the people. Steemit acts similar, for the betterment of all, by promoting topics people care about. LOVE YOU BERNIE XOXO -BW @birdiewonder

i disagree having a hashtag brings more attention to the internet world this site is open the more the hashtag the more attention it gets...  take example twitter instagram and many others... hashtag is same thing as freedom of speech :) taking it away it would bring negativity to steemit

Whoa...the algorithm is clearly weighted toward the Steemit tag. I never even get views when I don't use it. Until they fix that, there is no incentive to stop using it. In my mind every post on Steemit can realistically qualify for that # merely because of the platform of the post.

Maybe there should be a limit to three categories instead of 5, less spam that way.

What does the #steemit hashtag mean? and what kind of content should use the tag? It sounds like it could be anything, since #steemit means you are steemingit in every post. hmmm interesting.

I would really like to see posts put up with no tags enabled by the author, and part of the curation reward is for users to suggest and vote on tags..... Be a neat way to do it, and exposure to a lot of content would happen also

That is a nice point you are making about the #steemit tag getting abused too much.

What you need to also do however is also to point out what types of articles should include the #steemit tag as not to get treaded as abusers.

Here is a direct question, if I want to report a steemit bug should I use the #steemit tag or not when the post is directly related to steemit.com itself?

Somebody poked bernie sander bear.So no more steemit hashtags unless it's promoting steemit.  :) Just wanted to say my twin's sis America loves bernie!!! :) ...me...I am just saying I go for making america moving forward with diversity...and steemit to push forward as well.

Hey Bernie

I have made a Sci-Fi Graphic Novel over past 2 months and released it exclusively on Steemit. I am using the tag Steemit: http://bit.ly/2bntC9E 
I thought of creating very high quality content exclusively for Steemit similar to what Netflix does with 'Stranger things', 'House of Cards'. My idea has been that it will go viral over the internet and several new users will flock to Steemit. Please have a look at the Novel, I have also subtly promoted Steemit inside the story, so I thought this should be really fun for people supporting Steemit. If you think it's a cool project, please support it. If you think there are things that I must correct like the tag or anything else, please let me know and I will correct them. My intention has only been to promote Steemit to several new people who are not aware of the platform. Great work with curation and I am supportive of the fact that tags must be put correctly for readers to understand and not just to promote posts.

Absolutely right! I raised the point couple of weeks ago citing that perhaps 1 tag or category per post is sufficient to group the article accurately. On wordpress you can add category and tags. 

Hashtags could've gone in the 'tag' section and the topic tag could've been a category. 

It would've been easier to curate content because this organizes it better. Now you'll see stories irrelevant to steemit being tagged with it. 

But, some feel 5 categories is appropriate to tag content and hence it is the way it is. People don't follow without guidelines. Hopefully we can set some moving forward so it becomes easier to curate good content and people realize the importance of appropriately organizing their work.
