This time G-dog has given is a rest from thought experiments to choose from some topics related to photography. However one of them was very deep. It is not the one I'm choosing this time. I wanted to show a bit of my vacations in Brazil in 2012. This specific part when after arriving a Friday we could do something fun on Saturday after getting rid of jet lag. Our guide, Suzy, showed us the way to Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão do Açúcar), a big rock located near the coast. This place has a great view of the whole city of Rio de Janeiro and from it you can see some of the sights. At least the big ones. It also has museums and other interesting areas on the top. There's a amphitheater and a theater stage. I'll show some of the photos but beware, they are really bad. This was 2012 and we had a 13mp camera. ![P1000903.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EpzykBWc1cSa4KyKHddoR5iSnBWzvnXCarNhbF7bp7pHUTv2Q1wTgCjt8NXbogiwYqW.JPG) Arriving to the cable car station You might wonder why the mountain is called Sugarloaf. This term is derived from the old sugar plantations back in colonial times. The sugar blocks were pilled in mounds and coveted with clay that had that shape. The mountain has the same shape thus the nickname stuck. This site was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2012. The mountain is made of granite and quartz. And it's located on the mouth of Guanabara Bay in a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic. It has a hegitj of 396m (1,299ft). And the main attraction is its cable car. They panoramic view of the city is amazing. ![P1000905.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EnugWhih35eueHi59q9FhF6SiZqfnKJFbz88kTh4p3deYN7H527jpDCyoXR1yGqcVxd.JPG) First station of the cable car ![P1000906.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EpCBMPAMHbqm1KFTgmV1skuS97f1DpgAcpPiXX5h85z2v72R5nAfoceLvVKUbMQQZLD.JPG) Dad buying the tickets. The sign says "only cards" ![P1000907.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EonkRh3fa7jHQBsHRNiXfCzPHdW68MbRJYZFx1LhH9YvbEMCLpB1c5PdqefETvfXjzq.JPG) That's my hand holding the ticket. I still have it stored in my mementos box Something I learnt from this trip is that many countries apply two kinds of fees for these things. One is for nationals; the other, for foreigners. It makes total sense since it has to be cheaper for people living in the place. I only mention this because Venezuela works the other way around. But enough geopolitics. ![P1000920.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/Ep1WWUzCw2qwhs7xb9acAxqx6HfXPWLhExGP6n6ika6qN8ZV9XH33SM8xmKNaWnmc51.JPG) ![P1000911.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/Eq7KXXwK89gShhx1f3A9C779cevdQowEtihSKpSwgXwc2LwxyHehQf6PwJ93sTxQqg7.JPG) ![P1000926.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EqhPGiA6E5frWcJ98dEFrCX9FVGLNdG27CciT28D7rcbdJzciyVsuqvTRpCRZgeq6Ve.JPG) ![P1000913.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/242Y5NJRs9MjzFgC6ULH9y6D5BYcYhVedGSxd8hAPMmeG8u4hgQy8TbtnJRrURqb5cVQP.JPG) This is some of the view from the cable car. It is great to see the city from many angles. Cable cars are just amazing. Before this, I had only gotten into the one in Merida and the one in Caracas. This is way better since you have a view of the ocean. And also, because it isn't so high. I get dizzy if I go pass the 3000m over the level of the sea. ![P1000930.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EpA2vLmWrxjqUL4vpMPqYbH3RupWaZzturEqMVwQv9WsSh5rY6ppjAea1DCJAeu61iq.JPG) ![P1000933.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/EoeFNv4L5uDaqvB7D6whXJa6LHmspcsmkC7Ac65ivboXuPXJrbQCVrzN6aUsfPigyVL.JPG) These sculptures are made with geodes extracted from the same mountain. It must take quite some work shaping something that's both very and brittle at the same time. ![P1000945.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/242DNEQmCU46WbHf5fEf2FzGXFVUMGDUSwe2euxc1wL9CSYoeAaSgQZW35Mu4c6jD3Cpd.JPG) My parents posing. That was our target for the next day. Unfortunately, I don't have those photos. And I think they were lost when one of my laptops died. I remember that Saturday as an chill day. We went to this place with an amazing view and just sled the time together as a family walking around and taking photos of the things we found appealing. That's the essence of vacations. Or so I think. The next day we did a tour of Rio that included the forest of Tijuca, the Maracana Football Stadium and some great places in the city including an All-You-Can-Eat Brazil steak house. You know those places where you can eat plenty and pay a round fee. There's more form the trip. It's the only one we have made as a family outside the country. And we were old enough to drink together. And that we did in plenty. There's some great beers in Brazil. Use that information wisely or not. https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://images.hive.blog/DQmPTLhVNyDnLA1pK3vUcmhgCVCDtvqDiE2TE95zU7V5w5Y/hive%20dividers-11.png ![Logo grabado en madera.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bertrayo/23zSQj2AJbb1sDFYr5A14SXTNDhWwhL7uLaEGV5RehyvGfeaVj6PRdeut8GrNDdfNswqD.jpg) Follow me on [Instagram](https://instagram.com/luthier_andresalvarez?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) for enquires and commission. Wonderful to travel as a family and to a place like this, phenomenal. It is my dream to go someday. I have not been on a cable car, when I went to Merida in 2007 it was damaged and we were left with the desire. Of all I loved the photos with the sculptures of material extracted from the mountain, I love those purple checkered stones. Thanks for sharing your experience @bertrayo, I can imagine your joy remembering it. Oh and I have also missed an infinite number of photos. With which I could participate in this dynamic.

It was a great experience. We did lots of things. I wished I had the photos of the tour in Rio since we made it to several important sites and landmarks. But alas, I could find them. I'm glad you like the post. And well, o haven't been to Merida again. The last time o was there it was 2005 or 2006. Can't place the exact number. But I remember being able of going on the cable car and going sick because of the heights.

I was about to comment I haven't seen any photo only to realize it's my connection problem😂. I haven't experienced riding in a cable car yet, just zipline. >That's my hand holding the ticket. I still have it stored in my mementos box Haha, I have this attitude too! I am fond of keeping things that I see as good remembrance for memories😂. I am such a sentimental person.

Ha, ha, ha, ha. And here I thought only venezuelans had slow connections. A cable car is interesting. It isn't fun when there's a lot of wind. You feel like it is going to fall off the line and you'll plummet to your demise. It's a cool thing to do. I mean it isn't like I'm always traveling abroad. 😅

Brazil is one of the countries I would like to visit, it is a blessing to travel as a family, but you don't see yourself in any photo, that's cheating 😆. Are you an only child? @bertrayo I laughed at your comment about countries having two rates and in Venezuela foreigners always pay less, hahahah it's true. I'm thinking about participating I'm looking for pictures I haven't used before.

I'm in the first picture with the glasses. I had my hair short during that trip. It is a great country. And I agree about the family traveling. But it's high time I started to travel around by myself. If money weren't, a hindrance. 😂 >Are you an only child? @bertrayo Nope. I have an older brother. But I rarely mention him since we are not very close. Well, go ahead and find the pictures! The lock is ticking! 😂
