It so happens that every now and then, a person will come into my circle of friends. This person will always have the most random and funny anecdotes. It could be that this is the way of life telling me that I must pursue the passion for writing that I have developed from early in life. However, that's not what this entry in my blog is.

The people who bring the anecdotes are not usually the kind of friends that stick for long in my close circle. Not like they pass aways. They tend to drift into other adventures. That must be the nature of their experience in this world. Their anecdotes take them to other places. It is natural. Or not. I could not tell you.

They range from the people who like to lie about everything. Your run of the mill mythmaker. I Had one of these friends in my high school years. People used to think I bought every tale he told me. I was just fascinated at his skill to come up with the most ludicrous stories about his life. And I guess he wanted someone to listen to all of this. So I let him tell me all the stories. We are not close anymore. And the last time I saw this old friend was during his mother's funeral. Not the best of chances to reconnect. I hope his is doing well.

After that particular friend, the anecdotees have always being on the side of real stories. They would come and go. I'm always open to listen to a nice story. Some of those details could end up in one of my own short stories, poems, or even a novel. Everything is possible. During college, I did have a plethora of these friends. Their stories were of different genres. Some of them were borderline dangerous. These people do not have any preservation instinct. And sometimes they would throw themselves into really dangerous narratives just for the sake of having something to tell. For some people, having that excitement is akin to living.

Not many of these stories were told over coffee. Some required alcohol for the sheer scope and plot twists in them. A whole new experience of the whole department of listening to storytellers wave their magic.

It so happens that the chair of anecdotes is occupied by a girl in this stage of my life. She always has a good anecdote to tell. Some of them are about guys being dicks. Others, about how she ended up crossing different states to hand over something. They are always amazing stories and she knows how to keep the interest of someone by telling her anecdotes with pacing and dividing them by acts.

The latest one was amazing. It was such a good stories that she invited me over for a cup of coffee because there was no other way to tell it. It need the dramatic pauses for sips from the cup. And the final sentence was uttered while holding the cup high and saying "and that's how it went".

I do love to have chance to listen to stories from other people's life. Not because I want to go around spreading them, but it gives me something that amazes me every time, a glimpse into human nature from other perspective. And that is the best part of listening to someone. And having a cup of coffee to savor the moment makes everything even better. Hopefully, there will be more anecdotes to listen to and tell.

For the time being, going to the busy place and have the ambient noise cover the conversation is a nice way to be part of the landscape of the city while weaving the plot of a fine story.

If you wanna know the gist of the anecdote I listened to, I'll give you the summary. She was dating a guy. She went for a weekend to another city for an event and also to see the guy. She felt ill. The guy was a dick. The reason for this is that the guy likes another girl. They are not in a relationship. And the new interest of the guy is a friend of hers. It gets convoluted. But that is as much as I will tell.

Sometimes anecdotal stories don't need to be our own to belong to us or touch our hearts.

It was enough to read your great story and the way you write it, as it feels so spontaneous, which you combine with coffee, something I enjoy just as much.
