Today, we're back with more chores around the house. Mom bought a new plug for the extractor in the kitchen and, of course, I had to be the one changing it. The last time I made any electrical installation was 3 years ago when I crafted my side bender for the workshop.

Let's see if I don't make this blow up!

# Out with the old

Getting this off the cable is simple enough. The plug has some screws that press it on the cable. The other one that go on the front encase the cables and connections. Something that I missed during this part was taking into consideration which side was the positive and which the negative. This is important as crossed cables would cause a short-circuit. In the worst case possible, it could fry the extractor and start a fire. This thing is under some wood cabinets, so I could get all the kitchen on fire.

Anyhow, after taking some time to inspect since you need to handle the cables enough to get then in place, you can figure out cables are marked for this reason. Usually, the positive side is made of copper and the other one is aluminum or some other metal of a different color.

From the start, the new plug was a bad purchase. You'll see it has a different design. However, I had an old universal adapter that could fix this problem. Then, came the installation issue. I spent almost an hour figuring out how to place the cables in their place. Yes, I knew where to place them. Yes, I had taken enough of the wire out of its insulation for this job. The configuration of this plug was just annoying. The previous one had the screws for the poles on an horizontal fashion. This new one was vertical. And that made it really annoying to get the wires in place.

I must have tried several times until it finally got in place and it didn't come off with a pull. 

After getting this done, we need to trim any lose threads from the wire that might give us some trouble. Then, we close the plug and adjust every screw.

Then, comes the moment of truth. I plugged it in the socket and saw no bad reaction. No spark. No fire. Then, I turned on the extractor's light to check if anything would blow...

...and it didn't! So the installation was safe and sound.

And with that, I finished another of my house chores.
