A  review on  project Eloncity based on Whitepaper !

Project Eloncity recently released their whitepaper. So from this article, I'm going to check out the technical aspects of Eloncity project referring to its whitepaper. If you need to get a general idea about this project please refer to my first 3 articles before this one. I'm going to explain the technical features of this project referring to the whitepaper details.

okay, let's get into the topic directly. What is this DC  powered home concept highlighted in this project ?  And how can we say that it is better than  current AC based power systems ? We all know that there are two types of electricity we basically use. First one is AC (Alternative Current -Electric charge changes its flowing direction periodically )  and the second one is DC ( Direct Current - Electric charge flows in one direction).  There is electrical equipment in our houses and offices which are operated using each type of above mentioned AC or DC. For instance  LCD tv, laptops,  LED lights, mobile phones etc . And we know all the other equipment like fans,  air conditioners, refrigerators are based on ac current, But today we can see there are DC powered fans,  air conditioners, refrigerators in the market.  So DC powered house is a very important concept and it's a new concept.  To operate the above mentioned DC powered equipment we have to convert AC to DC. So it is the best solution as there is a certain power loss in that conversion. What if we can generate DC power in our premises and use them directly without a use of an inverter?  
We can do all the same thing using a DC power system. The issue is currently the whole power systems are based on centralized AC power systems.  So each and every consumer has to design their premises based on ac power system. Now let us try to understand this "Eloncity Decentralized Energy Architecture" As you, all can see, solar panels (photovoltaic panels -  PV ) are used here to generate power using sunlight.  Through PV panels DC power is generated and MPPT stands for Maximum power point trackers which helps to optimize the power efficiency. And after that, there is a battery bank which is used to store extra energy generated and they can be used when solar panels are not able to generate electricity ( night time, rainy times, when environmental temperature out of  PV operating temperature range). ). As I described above we need both ac and dc power for our equipment.  So here the system uses an inverter, a device which is used to convert dc power to ac power and it also capable of keeping the output power frequency and voltage within a predefined range.  So the system will be able to power up both AC and DC powered devices. 

And when talking about the Eloncity model. The energy shared in this decentralized microgrids are energy through local renewable sources such as wind and sunlight.  And these microgrids are a combination of PV arrays,BESS, , electric vehicles ,small wind turbines, DCbus Schedulers etc.

Eloncity whitepaper has provided detailed information about the following technical aspects.

 *    ECTP Operation:- Algorithms, rules which are designed for a microgrid operation.
 *   Transforming with  EV Charging
 *   Hierarchical Chain Management
 *  Power Flow Management:- A decentralized processing network.
 *  ECTP and DCbus :-Local Power Flows Balancing and Optimization 
 *  Base Load Service Provider (BLSP) Roles.
 * DCbus Scheduling

When looking at the features you can get a basic idea of the project. But you have to refer to the whitepaper to get a proper understanding about each and every feature. This project is very deep and complex to understand  as  it's a technology base  project .

I must say that the whitepaper released by team Eloncity is one of the best whitepapers released up to now. The concept is very complex. Actually a person needs a knowledge of an Electrical Engineer to understand the technical concepts behind this. But all those facts are very clearly inserted in the whitepaper.  
This project has a great potential and it is very promising. so I welcome you all to go through the whitepaper and take a good understanding of the project.
