🤮 This is my reaction to people who obsessively correct others. Especially correcting adults. I can understand if a teacher needs to teach their class proper English etc and it is in a classroom setting but a relationship should not be a classroom. Incessant picking on a partner/spouse/friend is both condescending and negative. When someone constantly thinks they are on some kind of a high horse mentality and that they are looking their nose down on you this will lead to problems. People need to treat their partner with mutual respect. Now perhaps the 'picker' doesn't realize how rude they are being and thinks they are helping. To this I would say explain how it makes you feel. If the person persists on 'nit picking' I would say they have little to no respect for the person they are berating. A home and personal time is a place in which a person should feel comfortable to speak how they wish, and behave as themselves with out having to fear being picked at. Many years of nit picking on a person can and will lead to an erosion of mutual respect. How can they expect the partner whom is being "corrected" to show them any sort of respect when they clearly are not being respectful of the person they overly-correct. My Father was the sort of person who did this to me. Our time spent together always felt like I was on eggshells and I was in fear of saying the wrong set of words. This had led me to being aware of never picking on people because I know how painful it can actually be. It made me feel low, beneath Him, dare I say stupid. I was never uplifted, I was never told anything was ever right, and was only spoken to to point out what was wrong. Therefore I am dead set against anyone doing this to anyone else under any circumstances with the exception to the rule being a classroom. If the person being corrected wanted English lessions they can attend night class. A relationship should not feel like a classroom. And in summary I will also say that often times the person doing the picking probably does a great deal of many things wrong (it may not be English) it could be acting like a slob, being rude aka nit picking, not being thoughtful towards their partner.. and probably many other things. A solid relationship is built on a foundation of mutual love and respect for each other. If there is no respect than the relationship is build on a sandy shore. And will probably will be swept away by the next storm that rolls in (aka any life problems).
