Getting over my fear of Polygons

# Triangle of Fear

As long as I can remember I have always avoided high polygon models in my work as both a game developer and as an artist, and recently I have realized how much of a hindrance that has become. Sure creating efficient topography is sexy, but sometimes its just needs to be RIGHT, GPU be damned, but still I struggle to use the tools that can really make my models shine.

My Game Development Hobby (as I've never sold a title, though I've made a few) started back when I was in first college circa 2001 there weren't many free and open game engines out there at the time and of those that allowed for mods there was a strict rules on how many triangles could be used to create the objects. Not much has changed in the recent years. That is if you don't count how a single object in a game can have around the same number of triangles as an entire scene did in the early 2000s. This has opened up the world to so many great and impressive games with near life like lighting and animations. Yet still I find it hard to just let go and let the artist take over when I create my games.  Even Phil (pictured below) was designed to be as light on polys as possible.

I working though this, as I'm now a few months into a project that has gotten a lot of positive responses from the community here on STEEM and elsewhere. I know that people will forgive the game if the graphics aren't AAA quality but that doesn't mean I shouldn't put my best foot forward in creating it.
