Hello everyone, friends. It has been more than 2 months since I returned from my hometown. I realize that I miss my family, my village and the fresh air of my village. I try to satisfy my longing with the photos I took while I was in the village. Today, I would like to tell you about some of the moments I spent in the village and show you a few frames from the photos I took.

Köydeyken getirdiğim zamanlarda çektiğim fotoğrafları özlem gidermeye çalışıyorum. Bugün sizlere köyde geçirdiğim bazı zamanlardan bahsetmek ve çektiğim fotoğraflardan bir kaç kare göstermek istiyorum*.📸🖼️

Today, I would like to tell you about our garden, which is no longer actively used, and the fountain left from my grandfather. According to what is written on this fountain, it was built in 1963 by the State Hydraulic Works. So the fountain is about sixty years old. However, as far as I remember from my childhood, this fountain (I think it was caused either by the incomplete use of the material or the use of poor quality materials) had a rather dilapidated and dilapidated appearance. My grandfather was always trying to restore this place until 6-7 years ago. Every year there would be a problem at this fountain. Either the holes were clogged because the plaster inside was poured, or the water carried by pipes from above was clogged with dirt, and the water of this fountain was often cut off for such reasons. We have a garden about 50-60 meters below the fountain, which we used quite actively before and where we met our vegetable needs. We do not want the water of this fountain to be cut off in order to meet the irrigation needs of the garden, and at the same time, we do not want the cattle, sheep and stray animals in the neighborhood to meet their water needs from here. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that my grandfather spent his last years in the care of this fountain. I guess that's why every time I see this fountain, I remember when my grandfather worked so hard here. Back then, the water flowed so abundantly that women in the neighborhood would come here to wash carpets. A wide and thick layer of concrete was poured just in front of the fountain to make it easier for women to wash carpets. In this way, more comfortable and cleaner carpets were washed here. However, since a larger shepherd's fountain was built over this fountain a few years ago, they transferred the water coming here to that fountain. For this reason, in recent years, the water here either does not flow at all or very little. It saddens me that this fountain is so neglected and that its water does not flow.


*Bugün sizlere artık aktif olarak kullanılmayan bahçemizden ve dedemden hatıra kalan çeşmeden bahsetmek istiyorum. Bu çeşme üstünde yazdığına göre 1963 yılında Devlet Su işleri tarafından yaptırılmış. Yani çeşme yaklaşık altmış yaşında. Ancak çocukluğumdam hatırladığım kadarıyla bu çeşmenin (ya malzemesinin eksik kullanılmasından kaynaklı veya da kalitesiz malzeme kullanılmasından kaynaklı olduğunu düşünüyorum) çok eksimiş ve yıkık bir görünüm vardı. Dedem ise vefat etmeden 6-7 yıl  öncesine kadar burayı sürekli restore etmeye çalışırdı. Her sene mutlaka bu çeşmede bir sorun çıkardı. Ya içinin sıvası döküldüğü için delikleri tıkanırdı ya da yukarıdan borularla taşınan suların içine pislik tıkanırdı ve bu gibi sebeplerden bu çeşmenin sık sık suyu kesilirdi. Çeşmenin yaklaşık 50-60 metre kadar aşağısında önceleri oldukça aktif olarak kullandığımız ve daha çok sebze ihtiyacımızı buradan karşıladığımız bir bahçemiz var. Bahçenin sulama ihtiyacını gidermek için, mahallede ki büyükbaş, küçükbaş ve sokak hayvanları su ihtiyacını da buradan giderdiği için bu çeşmenin suyunun kesilmesini istemezdik. Bu yüzden dedemin son seneleri bu çeşme ile ilgilenmekle geçti desem yanlış olmaz. Sanırım bu yüzden bu çeşmeyi her gördüğümde dedemin burada canla başla çalıştığı günleri hatırlıyorum. O zamanlar buranın suyu o kadar bol akardı ki mahalledeki kadınlar buraya halı yıkamaya gelirdi. Kadınların halı yıkaması daha kolay olsun diye çeşmenin hemen önüne geniş ve kalın bir beton tabakası da döktürülmüştü. Bu sayede burada daha rahat ve daha temiz halılar yıkanıyordu. Ancak birkaç yıl önce bu çeşmenin yukarısına daha geniş bir çoban çeşmesi yapıldığı için buraya gelen suyu o çeşmeyi aktardılar. Bu yüzden son birkaç yıldır buranın suyu ya hiç akmıyor ya da çok az akıyor. Bu çeşmenin böyle bakımsız ve suyunun akmadığını görmek beni epey üzdü*.

After wandering around the fountain, I made my way to our garden. In the past, garden gates were always closed so that animals could not eat the vegetables/fruits we grow. Before my grandmother passed away, my mother and grandmother used to grow a wide variety of vegetables in this garden. A few years after my grandmother passed away, my mother didn't want to deal with this place alone. That's why we haven't been growing vegetables/fruits here for the past few years, and my father grazes the neighbors' cattle and sheep here so that it doesn't completely cover the garden. That's why we don't close the gates of the garden. There were nettles and thorns on the edges of the garden. This image made me very sad. When I looked around, I remembered the old fertile and colorful days of the garden. Here we used to grow many kinds of vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, beans, potatoes, onions. Of course, it was very difficult to maintain such a large garden. However, in those old days when we were crowded, everything seemed easier and more beautiful.

*Çeşmenin etrafını gezdikten sonra bahçemize doğru ilerlemiştim. Önceleri yetiştirdiğimiz sebze/meyveleri hayvanlar yemesin diye bahçenin kapıları hep kapalı olurdu. Babaannem vefat etmeden önce annemle birlikte bu bahçede birçok farklı türde sebze yetiştirirlerdi. Babaannem vefat ettikten birkaç yıl sonra annem burayla tek başına ilgilenmek istemedi. Bu yüzden son bir kaç yıldır burada sebze/meyve yetiştirmekle ile ilgilenmediğimiz için ve zararlı otlarda bahçeyi tamamen kaplamasın diye babam komşuların büyükbaş ve küçükbaş hayvanlarının burada otlamasına müsaade ediyor. Bu yüzden de bahçenin kapılarını kapatmıyoruz.  Bahçenin kenarlarına ısırgan ve dikenler kaplamıştı. Bu görüntü de beni oldukça üzmüştü. Buralara bakınca bahçenin o eski verimli, rengarenk günleri gözümün önüne gelmişti. Burada domates, biber marul, salatalık, fasulye, patates, soğan gibi birçok çeşit sebze yetiştirirdik. Tabii bu kadar büyük bir bahçenin bakımı da oldukça zor oluyordu. Ancak kalabalık olduğumuz o eski günler sanki her şey daha kolay ve daha güzeldi*. 🥬🌶️🫑🍅🥔

We also had a barn in the garden. However, when I was a kid it was a very old and dilapidated barn. Since it snowed a lot last year, the barn could not carry this load and was completely destroyed. With the help of my brothers, we carried the remaining wood from the destroyed barn home and burned it in the stove. On the day I took these photos, only wall stones and broken tiles remained from the barn. This neglected and dilapidated state of the garden made me very sad.

*Bahçenin içinde bir de samanlığımız vardı Ancak benim çocukluğumda da oldukça eski ve harabe bir samanlıktı. Geçtiğimiz yıl epey kar yağdığı için samanlık bu yükü taşıyamamış ve tamamen yıkılmıştı. Kardeşlerimin yardımıyla yıkılan samanlıktan kalan odunları evimizin önüne taşıyıp sobada yakmıştık. Ben bu fotoğrafları çektiğim gün ise samalıktan geriye duvar taşları ve çatısının kırılmış kiremitlerinin döküntüleri kalmıştı. Bahçenin bu bakımsız ve yıkık hali beni oldukça üzmüştü*.

In the past, there were grape vines resembling ivy plants in every corner of the garden. Now only a few roots remain. There were quite a few grapes on this little vine. I also bought a few bunches to eat at home. The taste of the grapes of the vine tree in the garden is quite sour and although the grapes are small, they are not eaten by the household because they have many seeds, but I ate the most because I like sour.

*Önceden bahçenin her köşesinde sarmaşık bitkisini andıran üzüm asmaları vardı. Şimdilerde ise sadece bir bir iki tane ufak kök kalmış. Bu küçük asma ağacında epey üzüm vardı. Ben de evde yemek için birkaç salkım almıştım. Bahçedeki asma ağacının üzümlerinin tadı epey ekşi ve üzümlerin boyu küçük olmasına rağmen epey çekirdekli olduğu için de ev halkı tarafından pek yenilmesede, ben ekşiyi sevdiğim için en çok ben yerdim*.

We have very good conversations in the group I am a member of. In particular, the content of some chats is quite useful. One day we talked about oils obtained from various extracts and it was time for peppermint oil. As a result of our ongoing conversation, I also learned that dear @damla is quite a master in these matters. Frankly, I never expected that peppermint oil could be made so easily. I decided to make peppermint oil with her recipe. A few days after I had this talk, I wandered around our garden and found fresh green mints in the garden. Actually, I had in mind to make peppermint oil from them. However, the peppermint oil job was delayed because we used the mints I collected that day in another dish. Then I could not visit our garden again and came to Izmir. Although my idea of ​​making peppermint oil in the village is delayed, I want to buy fresh mint from the market as soon as possible and start this business here. If I am successful, I would like to share the peppermint oil production here 😊

*Üyesi oldum grupta çok güzel sohbetler ediyoruz. Özellikle bazı sohbetlerin içeriği oldukça faydalı oluyor. Bir gün çeşitli özlerden yapılmış yağlardan bahsetmeştik ve konu nane yağına gelmişti. Devam eden muhabbetimiz sonucunda sevgili @damla nın bu konularda oldukça usta olduğunu da öğrenmiştim. Açıkçası nane yağının bu kadar kolay yapılacağını hiç tahmin etmemiştim. Ve onun tarifi ile nane yağı yapmaya karar vermiştim. Bu muhabbeti yaptığımız günden bir kaç gün sonra da bahçemizi dolaşmıştım ve bahçede taze yeşil naneler bulmuştum.🥬 Aslında aklımda onlardan nane yağı yapmak vardı. Ancak o gün topladğım naneleri başka bir yemekte kullandığımız için nane yağı işi ertelenmişti. Sonrada ben tekrar bahçemizi ziyaret edemedim ve İzmir'e geldim. Köyde nane yağı yapma fikrim epey ertelenmiş olsada en yakın zamanda pazardan taze nane alıp bu işi başlatmak istiyorum. Eğer başarılı olursam nane yağı yapımını burda da paylaşmak isterim*. 😊🥬
