Modern Türk edebiyatının en iyi romanlardan biri. Oğuz Atay tarafından yazılan kitap ilk olarak 1972 yılında yayınlanmıştır. 70'li yıllarda değeri anlaşılmamış, kitabın yaygın bir okur kitlesiyle buluşması 1980'lerin ortalarını bulmuştur. 

Kitabın anlatıcısı Turgut Özben isimli mühendistir. Turgut roman boyunca Selim Işık isimli arkadaşının intiharını araştırır. Selim Işık ve çevresindeki insanlar "tutunamayanlar" kitlesini oluşturmaktadır. Turgut Özben tutunamayanlar arasında en tutunmuş olanıdır. Eğitimlidir, iyi bir işi vardır, evlidir ve onlara göre uyum sağlama yeteneği gelişmiş görünmektedir.

Ne var ki o da diğerleri gibi kendisini yalnız hissetmektedir. Hayali arkadaşı Olric Turgut'un yalnızlığına bir nebze olsun hafifletir. Olric'le diyolagları bilinç akışı tekniğiyle yazılmış olan romana espri ve hareket katar.

Romanın anlatıcısı olan Turgut bir nebze tutunmuş olma halinden utanç duymakta ve Selim'in özgünlüğüne, yaratıcılığına özenmektedir. 

Orhan Pamuk'un kült romanı Kara Kitap, Galip'in zamanla Celal'e dönüşmesi ve arayış ve özlem romanı olmasıyla Tutunamayanlar'a benzer.

Turgut'un soyadının Özben ve Selim'in soyadının Işık olması dikkat çekicidir. Turgut benliği ya da egoyu, Selim ise üst benliği ya da süper egoyu temsil ediyor olabilir.

Tutunamayanlar tüm Oğuz Atay kitapları gibi sıcak, samimi ve ironik bir dile sahiptir. Romanın bunca popüler olması boşuna değildir.<hr/><center>
