The main character in Ghost in the Shell has a synth body and a human brain and yet her true essence remains. The thing that keeps haunting me is the fact that her essence remains intact.  But where does this ghost essence of her reside? Mind brain both or other?   
 
Her body is gone but her mind remains and as a consequence her ghost.  They call it ghost but we could call it spirit soul etc. I find this truly fascinating. Somehow the brain contains the real you and nothing else, not DNA or heart beat.  We are in effect an invisible spirit. Is it immortal?  Is it more than memories or slave to it?  For sure memory can be manipulated. What does that say about the nature of human condition? And what will that do to our ghost spirit soul essence?  It would mean our soul is not really pure.  Does it escape death?
 
I would like to think that we are more than awareness. There’s a memorable line in the film that says we are more than our memories. Is like whatever we do actually defines us and not our memories.  But surely our ghost is part memory and part future. Then which one exerts the most influence.  And where did our soul began? From the foundations of the earth or in the womb?   
 
So my understanding is that my spirit essence is the real me and not the sack of flesh. It actually feeds the flesh and not the other way around. So I am much deeper than DNA. DNA does not influence my thoughts.  It is just the pencil. I use this pencil to draw whatever spills  from my ghost spirit essence.  Invisible things which makes up the real me.
