Just like what makes Ethereum so strong and sought after are the same things that would make hive strong and sought after. Ethereum got much of its attention from DeFi, NFTs, and yes Layer two tokens which created countless of other sub businesses and applications.

All of these applications need to hold ETH to be able to really function, swap and use the main blockchain layer. That's much the case of Hive but in a unique way. With Hive an application needs powered up hive in order to hold resources on the chain to be able to input their data on to the chain, onboard users to its application that are new to hive and so forth.

This is where apps or Dapps is critically important to the real growth of hive itself and where Hive needs to start to understand that putting up some capital for things like hackathons etc to build these applications is also critical to growth. Of course we as a community need to do our part and make sure we are only supporting real legitimate development and not some bait and scam trying to filter off funds. It's a tricky thing to do in a decentralized world aka platform but it is possible.

## Looking Inward First

One of the best places we can start doing this is taking a look at current applications running on hive either as startups or looking back at the history of value they have brought to this blockchain.

For example [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com?ref=bitcoinflood) is currently running into some major issues with funding. However if you look back at the history of Splinterlands you can clearly see it was one of the very critical parts that really put the hive blockchain on the radar for many during the last bull run and p2e era. I honestly don't think Hive would have gotten nearly as much exposure as it did without Splinterlands. 

If Splinterlands did a DHF proposal for some funds to help it keep up operations would it be something you'd vote on and approve? Do you see the value Splinterlands brings and would be willing to release some funds to the product or would you think otherwise?

LEO is another great example of how it's offering something unique to hive. A very easy onboarding with something easy people can do. With threads it allows someone to quickly join the hive blockchain and then send out their first thread. Their first interaction on the hive blockchain without even realizing they are on it and perhaps earning from it. But that's actully the power of it. As they hang around more and start to see that they are earning they can still do their normal threading activity but also start to expose themselves to how things work on the hive blockchain such as keys, trading, powering up, how to earn crypto, vote on witnesses, vote on DHF proposals etc. Just imagine trying to jam all of this into someone's face when they first join and think why it's been so hard to adopt new people on to the hive blockchain.

By creating applications such as gaming, threads, video and so forth we are offering unique entry points that cater to each person. Person A might love doing vlogs but cares nothing about threads, Person B might love threading and that's it and Person C might like writing articles about what they are building, travels or another topic and not care about video or threads.

By offering targeted options like this and applications that cater to each specific thing it's now easier than ever to onboard someone and start exposing them to other aspects of hive.

In general with applications that provide these unique cases it's one of the strongest ways to increase the value of hive, bring more people into hive and in many of these cases the users are your best marketing source over trying to promote hive itself in a marketing budget. Create something awesome, that provides real value people want and the onboarding will happen through your core user base.
