Boys room should be painted blue and girls room should be pink. That is the commonly associated colors for boys and girls room.

If a boy loves pink, he is described as effeminate or someone that loves "girlie colors".

I really don't know where these assumptions sprang from.

Looking at the above pictures, it is not hard to see which one is the boy's side and the girl's side using the above assumption. Just in case you couldn't tell, I can help you out. The girl's room is the pink one on the left, while the boy's side is the blue-painted side on the right.

As a male, I grew up liking dull colors, brown, black, blue, etc. without being told they are "manly colors". I just love the colors, but the day I decided I wanted a pink shirt, the color looked good to 5-year old me, I was told I can't have it that it is not a "boyish color!" That instant I was inducted into the world of colors for sexes.

Till then I never knew that color has a gender. I was used to gender in places like restrooms and bathrooms.

I tried to wrap my mind around this new information on the already overloaded 5-year old brain. At the end of the day, I settled grudgingly to a blue shirt.
Some of these mundane stereotypes that are perpetuated mindlessly do they have any claim to its practices? If they do, can someone tell me where it all started? I would be very interested to know.
