It is another wonderful opportunity to learn at God's feet this evening as we share the word of God through the daily mass Indoctrination and I must say I was blessed. Alright, we started with opening prayers and we commit what we are to study in God's hands. I learnt something from the mood of prayer because I got to discover the mode and way the prayer was prayed. We were committing everything to God's hands. We started with the recap of the last teaching. We continue on the doctrine of our Lord Jesus Christ and which Brother Eli continues teaching.
The Lord Jesus has talked about the proper way to pray. First of all, I was also able to learn the context of prayer. There is some Catholic prayer that is not relevant. Prayer has content according to the prayer. In Phil.4.6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Phil.4.7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Prayer as we all see is making known to us our requests to God. It is us making sure that our request is made known to God in thanksgiving and we should not be anxious. We were also shown the example of Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus, and the disciples before they replaced Juand dasDasraand yed before casting the lots. Acts.1.24 - Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen
Acts.1.25 - to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs."
As you can see in the scriptures, they were praying to God about who God wanted to choose between Mattias and Barsabas. They prayed intending to table their request before God. Also, we should learn that make known our requests known to God in thanksgiving. We should have faith that our prayers have already been answered by God. We should not doubt when we prayed. Someone might want to ask, why is Thanksgiving included in that scripture?
It is because if we ask God, we should thank God that we have received them. Mark.11.24 - Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. We should be praying with trust in God that what we are praying for has already been received by God almighty and so we need to give thanks to God for that. Prayer is a communication between us and God. It is means of tabling our request before God. Praying is requested. We should not copy the Catholics who think they are praying to God but they are just narrating stories to God. God does not need us to narrate stories to him when we pray, he already knows that. He wants a request.
We should be careful of making vain repetition also when praying because that's not what Jesus said we should do. We should first of all start our prayer with Thanksgiving and end it with Thanksgiving. That's God's commandment towards prayer. Matt.15.36 - Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. Matt.15.37 - They all ate and were satisfied. Afterwards, the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. You can see that in this verse, Jesus givess thanks to God before breaking the bread. We should learn the act of thanksgiving towards our creator. It is dangerous to live a life that is prayerlessness. We should pray always
