Cisco technology conglomerate has received a patent for the development of "crowdsourcing system for cloud computing", applicable including cryptocurrency mining. It is reported by CoinDesk.

The application to the us patent and trademark Office was filed in September 2015 and offered to use excessive computing resources of the computer to perform various tasks, including energy-intensive mining.

According to the developers, the division of resources allowed to create a dedicated computing system, which could be used as a "cloud".

"This model is suitable, among other things, for distributed processing of tasks and distributed services that can be optimized for speed, volume, scale, fault tolerance, price and compliance with the law. One of the possible areas of application is bitcoin mining, which can be very demanding on computing resources and, as a rule, is more convenient for each participant, if it is performed in mining pools," the patent description says.

Among the benefits of distributed computing, Cisco also points to ease of scaling and resilience to certain types of attacks. In addition, their design enables service providers to use geographical distribution to offload or optimize network load, as well as to resell large-scale, low-cost computing resources and storage space.

Recall that in October 2017 Cisco filed a patent application for the creation of a monitoring system for IoT devices based on blockchain technology.
