Experts of the Israeli company Votiro, specializing in cybersecurity, found a vulnerability in the new version of Microsoft Word in the form of the ability to mine cryptocurrency through the embed code of the video, which can be inserted into a text file.


The vulnerability was caused by the fact that the embed code of the video content can be taken from absolutely any resource-no filtering in this regard in Word is not yet provided. Also, when playing videos inserted into a text file in this way, the Internet Explorer browser starts, which, in fact, initiates cryptocurrency mining.

The big implications of this mining, and in fact, has not, after all, in order to obtain from this process at least some income, it is necessary that the process of production were for a long time without interruption. The short preview clips in Word are unlikely to get rich anyone.

However, the fact remains: hidden mining is becoming more and more sophisticated and widespread.
