 <br> In a very secluded part of the city, I stumbled across a very interesting monument. An area of roughly around 100m2 surrounded by beautiful street lamps. Beautiful street lamps aren't strange, but when they are in a far-off area where there are hardly more shops than you have fingers on your hands, it is a bit strange. It screams "important". I was naturally magnetized towards this place. The closer I came the more clear it became that this was a place of great importance. Snow was shoveled away from the aisles, there were beautiful and well-maintained benches and trashcans. Signs of importance. <br>  <br> It was a snowy day and the sky was gloomy. It took me some time to make out the shape of the dark colored monument. In this weather, against a background of withering trees and soviet buildings, you need to get as close as possible to recognize the fine details. <br>  <br> I made my way to what seemed like the "entrance" to the memorial. I was welcomed by a stylish red star. A star, red or not, may mean various things around the world. But in a post-soviet or neighboring country, it can mean only one thing. I was filled with excitement because the history of the Soviets, the Red Army, the war with the Germans really intrigue me. That era completely changed the course of time. It has a very important significance in history. Staying in Ukraine gives me a very unique chance to learn about that era firsthand. <br>  <br> Inside, it's a cross shaped platform. The path is lined with bricks and there are benches on each side. Possibly for the loved ones to come by to sit and reminisce. It also could be to make the place more public friendly, a place where the public can enjoy the freedom that the fallen ones fought for. It is astonishingly well-maintained. I can only imagine how beautiful this memorial looks during the spring. Beautiful flowers and greenery surround the area with colorful trees for shade. <br>  <br> The monument in the center is a layered structure made of black marble. On its head, a red star, symbolic of the USSR is erected. There is a writing in Russian in yellowish golden paint that reads "**Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our country**". <br>    <br> On the foot of the monument, there are 3 black marble plates. 2 on either side have names inscribed in them. The middle one has the Soviet symbol painted on top. The remaining reads Katayev Aleksandr Vladimirovich Secretary of Underground Patriotic Organization. It was all covered in snow. I removed as much as I could with my hands to reveal what was written but could not bear the cold since I was not wearing gloves. I found a [website](https://memorial.kharkov.ua/Timiryazeva) that has something about this monument. According to it, this is a "Mass grave of Soviet soldiers" but it is unclear if there are any physical graves here or it is a symbolic grave for the soldiers that weren't recovered from the battlefield. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a lot more information about this specific monument elsewhere. <br>    <br> On either side of the main monument, there are 2 smaller monuments. They have a wider area around the monument where people can gather and/or sit on the benches and pay their respects. <br>   <br> The eastern monument is a small structure similar to the top of the main monument without the star. It reads "**Eternal glory to the independence of red army fallen in the war with German invader in the year of 1918. - From Trydakhsikhs, Krasnodarskaya Region, City Kharkiv, 1959 year.**" <br>   <br> On the western side, there is the 3rd monument. It looks like a headstone with a star inscribed on the top signing its Soviet ties. It reads "**Fiery Patriots of the country**". Beneath it is a straw under which there is more which reads "**Heroes of Soviet Union. Maria Kisayak. Fedor Rudenko.
