 HI folks, This blog is all about creating an urban garden in a previously grass and concrete lot in suburban Australia. Basically i'm trying to do a post a week updating the progress. Sometimes a vlog and sometimes text, sometimes both. Basically we are really trying to document our progress. **VIDEO IS HERE** https://3speak.tv/watch?v=blingit/vkpkjkwy  **So for those of you that know this... skip to the Update section.** We have been in this house for 6 years now and it is a concrete wastleland of concrete and grass with a pool. we decided that this needs to change and are creating a little urban farm in. We had a very GREEN back garden but it was just yukka plants. AND they planted this big rooted trees right on top of retaining walls. They are huge and are pushing on the walls. They needed to come out. Roots and all down into the earth we had to go... You can see here the view when we moved in.,... green... but not "pretty and productive.." Certainly no biodiversity. Not good for bees. Just green yick.  #### WHAT ARE WE CREATING? We are trying to create a little mini urban farm. - Fruit and vegetables - Chickens Worms and Mealworms - flowers - Bee haven and maybe bees - biodiversity - pesticide free where possible - native plants as well. So not JUST food but also food for the insects that will live in the garden. So i would love it if you would follow along # THE NEW FLOWERS I have plans to get more i think for the front door area. So pretty.    # Clearing out the herbs. So you might remember an early video i was clearing out the invasive herb beds. we plant the mint, thyme, oregano in separate pots because they take over and you can NEVER get them out. EVER. lol. But the soil is getting a bit depleated and despite all our efforts the herbs have invaded each others pots yet again. so we need to do a clear out. Most plants in pots will need a clear out with new soil every now anag again to deal with nutrient issues and root bound plants. **the blend pot** I am keeping the blend pot until the new ones are producing enough. Here it is... a bit of a mess. then when the next pots are working... its a gonna... lol.. and will become another plant.  **the oregano** I dumped a whole heap of soil over the oregano (leaving some sticking out) to refresh the pot rather than dig out and replant. It won't last as long but it will help. I smothered over and pulled out all the weeds.  **THYME** the Thyme was too mixed in with the oregano, so i got a pot that had raddishes in last season. added about 20cm of new fresh potting mix and added a new plant.  **taragon**   # Making a right mess Its all a bit tricky with my hand to do lots of work.. so mostly its a mess.. lol.. but getting there slowly. Just pulling out some old plants, refreshing the soil and preparing plants to go in them.   # THE BACK BED The back bed is growing really well and we have mini capsicum and baby zucchini growing which is awesome.      # THE NEW BED I'm planting the new bed today as well. adding herbs in the corner. So we have doubles of everything in the garden. Always a good idea if you have room.   as you can see, this bed is a few weeks behind the first one. On purpose so we can stagger the food production in the beds. Next will be the one on the back left. :-)   # RANDOM PLANTS    These are the yellow pear tomato... don't they look good   # CONCLUDING MESSAGES Just another very busy week all in all. Nice update 👍 it will be nice to see your garden growing as mine shuts down for the season. It was 36F this morning ❄️we tried to do herbs indoors this year and didn't have a lot of success. I think we will move the pots outside next year for more sun. Looks like your garden is off to a great start!
