She had only just received bad news, and her morning was not a happy one. But A as already concluded and judged on what she thought was the problem. Many a times, we give ourselves too much credit when we think "ah, it is because of me...ah, it is because I said that", when in fact this other person is just going through a rough patch at the moment. It was never about you but them, about their struggles, pain, sadness, bad news....and the only thing you may have said or done was trigger those feelings. *Don't be to quick to judge but instead try to understand or at least make excuses for them.* Understanding this would go a long way in helping you ignore unnecessary thoughts or feelings you may have as a result this.
