[Photo Quest](https://ecency.com/qurator/@qurator/qurators-photo-quest-or-goodbye-2021) competition for this week: **Goodbye 2021**. Well, more than difficult, at least for me. 

"*If you could capture your 2021 in a picture, what would it be?*"

A whole year in a picture! I started looking for a picture that would express something about this year, in fact, it should express the essence of the year, of course as I perceived it. Everyone has a different opinion and approach, this year that has just passed has certainly been different for each of us.

At first, I thought of taking a special photo for this contest but my imagination didn't help me. I had a few attempts and ideas that I couldn't bring to completion. I gave up because I wasn't happy with the message I was sending, even though I was trying to explain the meaning of the photo.

Only the second option remained. Searching through my own archive of photos in the hope of finding something suitable that also matches my opinion of the past year. I went through hundreds of photos but something didn't add up.

I have to say that for me this year has been a very difficult and unpleasant year, I had to find something that expressed that.

After a few hours, I was searching like a robot, not paying attention. At one point I noticed something..., some images kept repeating, I kept coming back to them. 

*I can say that the image of 2021 found itself, I didn't choose it!*

This is a picture from an isolated cemetery in Transylvania. A cemetery several hundred years old, the cemetery of a small village in the middle of a forest. 

What do I mean by this picture? **I mean that for me 2021 is a dead and buried year!**

*I'd like to forget 2021. It was the worst year of the pandemic, millions of people died worldwide, close relatives died, friends died, important people died, great artists from my country, Romania.*

At the end of 2020, we got infected with Covid-19, my wife, and I. I can't say it was a serious form, we were not in the hospital, but the recovery from the disease was very long, almost all of 2021.

It wasn't just Covid. This virus has activated other latent diseases in us and now we need to treat those too. All this plus all sorts of bans have made this year the worst year I can remember.

So I want this year to be not only gone, I want it to be dead and buried! In a cemetery as far away as possible.

The cemetery in these pictures is the cemetery of the village of Garboul Dejului at an altitude of almost 1000 m, in a hilly area, covered with forests. This is a small isolated village, where there are still a few dozen inhabitants.

There are many more places in the cemetery, more than the people left in the village. 

Why did I choose this photo to illustrate my year 2021? 

Because it was a common element in all the photographs chosen, an element that I felt suggested the shape of the past year. The dry trunk of a fir tree with dry branches coming out of it, resembling the skeleton of a monster.

I like and try to be objective and because of this I have to say that not all of 2021 was monstrous, there were good and pleasant parts, some achievements, some journeys, the joy brought by grandchildren, some hope for better in the future but mostly there was the ugly, hard and bad part.
