A Lesson In Thrift
## It is often said that *Necessity is the mother of invention,* but I think you could just as easily say that *Frugality* or *Thrift* lead to invention as well.

The key to invention, or one of the keys anyway, is limitation. When you have a need, but your resources are limited, you either invent or you do without.

Today I borrowed an old beat up pickup truck from a wealthy acquaintance of mine so that I could move into a new house. In the process, I not only learned a thing or two about how to save money, I also learned an interesting way to repurpose baby shoes.

When I got in the truck and looked around, particularly for where the gear shift was because, as it turns out, today was my first time driving a manual truck with the gear shift mounted on the steering column, not only was I surprised by the age and unkempt state of the truck itself, I was also surprised to find a pencil holder made out of a pair of open toed baby shoes glued to the dashboard.

*How clever,* I thought. It never would have occurred to me to do such a thing.

Then, as I looked around the truck a little more, I noticed some homemade cup holders screwed into the window frames of the truck. That's when it dawned on me.

*This is what those advice columns are always talking about, the little things that help you save money and add up over time. This is why my acquaintance is rich. He doesn't need a new truck. And he doesn't even need to waste a dollar at the Dollar Store buying cup and pencil holders. He can just make them. He has thrift, which might as well be another word for priorities.*

A car reviewer once had "the best car ever" in review. It was the car of his camera man.

Why was it the best? Because you could not care less about it. It was beaten in the sense of word. They filmed how the tester drove a shopping cart against it. Then the camera man said "don't be so shy, use more force!"

The car still was luxury because it magically moves him far faster and far farer then he could ever run at just a tiny move of a feet.

btw: "The millionaire next door" to see what makes you rich ;)

Actually, I was thinking of that exact article when I wrote this. Everything about the truck I borrowed and the guy who loaned it to me reminded me of that article. There are some real pearls of advice in it.
